GROSSE POINTE FARMS/GROSSE POINTE WOODS/GROSSE POINTE PARK — Get ready for blast off: It’s time for the annual summer reading program at the Grosse Pointe Public Library.

The program — open to children, teenagers and adults — is a chance for residents to keep up on their reading during the summer months. This year’s summer reading theme, “Universe of Stories,” will coincide with the 50-year anniversary of the first moon landing in 1969.

Those who register for the program are encouraged to track their reading progress for a chance to win prizes, including an iPad, AirPods, a Lego space shuttle, Cedar Point tickets and a science basket.

Library staff will host a number of events as “Universe of Stories” continues throughout the summer. And all are welcome to a kickoff celebration from 1 to 3 p.m. June 1 at the library’s Central Branch, 10 Kercheval Ave. in Grosse Pointe City. The event will include face painting, a bounce house, Striped Circus entertainers, crafts and more fun for the entire family.

There are three Grosse Pointe Public Library branches in all. The Ewald Branch is located at 15175 E. Jefferson Ave. in Grosse Pointe Park. The Woods Branch is located at 20680 Mack Ave. in Grosse Pointe Woods.
