ORCHARD LAKE — The 48th annual St. Mary’s Polish Country Fair, a popular Memorial Day weekend family tradition, will be held Friday, May 24, through Monday, May 27.

Hosted and sponsored by the St. Mary’s Preparatory Moms and Dads Club, the fair benefits the students at the more than 135-year-old high school.

“While all the favorite traditions are returning this year — from the pierogi to the Vegas tent — we are adding some fantastic new additions to keep the St. Mary’s Polish Country Fair exciting,” St. Mary’s Preparatory Headmaster Robert Pyles said in a press release.

“This is the nation’s largest high school fair, attracting more than 100,000 visitors each year, and we take that recognition very seriously to keep it fun and fresh.”

A variety of bands are slated to perform, and new this year, VIP packages for Mitch Ryder and the Mega 80s will allow for up-close and personal seating.

Along with traditional Polish foods, people can enjoy a Vegas-style gambling tent, a kids area, a sports tent, carnival rides, dancing, vendors and music.

The fair will be open 5-11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday. After 6 p.m., attendees must be 18 or older with a valid ID or be accompanied by a parent to enter the fair.

The Vegas tent will run 6 p.m.-1 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday.

“Because of the dedication of the St. Mary’s Moms and Dads Club and all our incredible parent and student volunteers, this fair is the official summer kickoff in the area and supports the students and the community,” Pyles said in the press release. “Because of its success, we provide scholarships, support student initiatives and continue to improve our beloved 120-acre campus.”

Admission tickets will be available at the gate entrance with cash or credit card and cost $5 per person or $15 for families of up to six people. Children 3 and younger attend for free.

Free parking on the grounds of St. Mary’s will be available.

Ride tickets are available in advance for the more than 45 carnival rides in the midway and can be purchased at stmaryspolishcountryfair.afrogs.org.

All-day ride passes can be purchased at the midway ticket booth or online in advance. The price of all-day ride passes does not include fair admission.
