We’ve now hit Week 8 in the football season and rivalry week is upon us. These games typically mean more than any others on the schedule as bragging rights are at stake.

Following is a listing of some of the biggest rivalries in the C & G Sports coverage area, along with a game that has serious playoff implications.

League and City Championship on the line

Farmington High (7-0) vs. North Farmington (7-0) –– 7 p.m. Oct. 18

A lot will be on the line when these two teams hit the field Friday night at North Farmington. Both enter the matchup undefeated, with the winner being crowned OAA Blue Division champions as well as city champions. Farmington has won the last three meetings, including last year’s 27-7 victory. North Farmington leads the all-time series 33-19-1. Both teams have already clinched playoff berths, but this game should still have serious playoff implications in terms of seeding.

Battle for the Pointes

Grosse Pointe North (0-7) vs. Grosse Pointe South (6-1) –– 7 p.m. Oct. 18

Though the records are very different, this rivalry still hits hard for fans, players and coaches. South won last year’s matchup 54-0 and is looking to clinch the MAC White Division, while North is eyeing its first win, while trying to derail the Blue Devils season. North leads the all-time series 31-20. State playoffs around the corner

Rochester Adams (5-2) vs. Southfield A&T (4-3) –– 7 p.m. Oct. 18

Both teams are still alive and looking to continue their chase for a state playoff berth. Six wins gets teams in automatically, while five wins could depending on the number of six-win squads. Adams is fresh off a win over Clarkston High, while A&T is coming off of a blowout against Oxford High. Adams won last year’s matchup 33-14 and is 2-0 all-time against the Warriors. With both teams in need of a win, this game could come down to the wire at A&T.
