2018 Record: 3-5

Last season’s record: 3-5
League: Michigan Independent Athletic Conference
Returning starters: N/A
First game: 7 p.m. Aug. 30 at Clarkston Everest Collegiate

Offensive keys:
The offense experienced a drop in production from 2017 to 2018. Last season, the team averaged 18.25 points per game during the regular season compared to 37.88 the season prior. In MIAC games last season, the Lancers were 3-4.

The Lancers will have their work cut out for them this season on offense. In the first game, they face a Mountaineers defense that allowed 200 points in 11 games played last season. In Week 5, the Lancers will take on a Sterling Heights Parkway Christian team that gave up an average of 14 points per game during the regular season last year.

Defensive keys:
The defense continued to see a drop in points allowed for the third straight season. In 2018, Oakland Christian allowed seven fewer points than it did in 2017, and 29 fewer than it did in 2016.

Of the 136 points the Lancers gave up last season, 97 of them came from two games. Oakland Christian did have three shutouts against Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest,

Mount Clemens High and Dearborn Heights Star International.

The Lancers play a similar schedule to last season, so the possibility is there for the defense to have another stout year.

Coach’s outlook:
Oakland Christian coach Rich Alkire could not be reached for comment.

at Clarkston Everest Collegiate (9-2) — 7 p.m. Aug. 30
The Lancers have struggled when it comes to playing the Mountaineers. Oakland Christian has been unable to win the matchup in four tries. Last season, Everest won 36-13 when the two teams opened the season.

vs. Detroit Voyageur Prep (1-7) — 7 p.m. Sept. 6
The only previous meeting between the Lancers and the Cougars came in 2009. Oakland Christian won 30-18 in the last game of the regular season.

vs. Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest (3-6) — 7 p.m. Sept. 13
The Lancers defense didn’t allow a single point the last time out against the Crusaders. Despite the shutout, Northwest leads the all-time series 8-3.

vs. Lutheran Westland (5-4) — 7 p.m. Sept. 20
It was a low-scoring affair when the Lancers met the Warriors last season. Neither offense was able to get going in a 6-2 win for Lutheran Westland.

at Sterling Heights Parkway Christian (9-1) — 7 p.m. Sept. 27
From 2017 to 2018, the Eagles improved their win total, points for and points against. In last season’s game, Parkway tied its highest point total of the season with a 61-18 win.

at Whitmore Lake High (4-5) — 7 p.m. Oct. 4
The last decade has not been kind to the Trojans. Since 2009, they have only made the playoffs once and have not had a winning season. This year will mark the first time the Trojans and Lancers face off.

vs. Dearborn Heights Star International (1-8) — 7 p.m. Oct. 11
Since their inception in 2005, the Falcons have managed just 11 wins. One of those wins came against Oakland Christian in 2015. The Lancers have come out on top in every other matchup, including a 28-0 win last year.

vs. Livonia Clarenceville (0-9) — 7 p.m. Oct. 18
This season will hold the first matchup between the Trojans and Lancers. After an 11-win season in 2013 that saw it reach the Division 5 state semifinals, Clarenceville has just eight wins in the last five seasons.

at Southfield Christian (3-6) — 7 p.m. Oct. 25
The Lancers and Eagles have played one another every season since 2009. Southfield Christian is 7-3 in those games, including a 19-14 win last season.
