CENTER LINE — A morning fire on June 16 sent a cloud of smoke from the roof of Taylor Door Co. skyward and brought emergency crews from Center Line, Warren and the Detroit Arsenal to the business on 10 Mile Road, east of Van Dyke Avenue.

Center Line Public Safety Director Paul Myszenski said there were no injuries reported among employees, civilians or first responders, but that the damage to the building was extensive.

“It looks like the whole building’s a total loss,” Myszenski said.

By 4 p.m., public safety officers were finishing up at the scene, extinguishing hot spots and preparing to reopen 10 Mile, which had been closed since the morning, blocked by fire trucks and hoses. Myszenski said the call came in to dispatch at 9:10 a.m.

“We actually got it out a lot faster than you would imagine with the amount of fire load that was in there,” Myszenski said. “The whole roof collapsed.”

The fire’s cause and point of origin were not immediately clear. Myszenski said fire investigators were planning to examine the site on June 17.

According to the company’s website, Taylor Door, at 8110 E. 10 Mile, is a family-owned business of 30-plus years offering interior and exterior doors, including garage doors.

Myszenski said the attached South Macomb Letter Carriers building at 8124 E. 10 Mile, on the east side of Taylor Door, appeared to sustain only nominal water intrusion.
