Farmers Market seeks recipes for cookbook

MOUNT CLEMENS — The Mount Clemens Farmers Market is gearing up for its 40th anniversary in 2019, and it wants its farmers, vendors and customers to be part of something historic.

Organizers of the popular seasonal market are now accepting recipes for a 40th anniversary Mount Clemens Farmers Market cookbook.

JoEllen Clark, secretary on the farmers market board and organizer of the cookbook, said those interested in being a part of the publication are welcome to submit up to five recipes before the March 1 deadline.

“We have already gotten a few soup recipes and some canning recipes,” she said. “We’re looking for all sorts of recipes — peoples’ favorites.”

Farmers market board member Pearl Romberg said the last recipe book was published in 2009 to commemorate the market’s 30th anniversary. She said this year’s book will also be professionally published and a valuable keepsake for fans of the Mount Clemens Farmers Market.

“Our last (binder-style) cookbook had close to 400 recipes,” said Clark, adding that close to 1,000 copies were sold. “We would like to do something similar. We would love to do 400 recipes again and this time have a hardcover cookbook. How many recipes we receive will determine the style of the book.”

Recipe submissions can include nutritional information, the history behind the recipe and even a word about the Mount Clemens Farmers Market.

Clark said the cookbook will be available for purchase midway through the market season, which runs from May through October.

When adding recipes, review the tips and use standard abbreviations. Only enter one ingredient per ingredient line. List ingredients in order of use in the ingredients list and directions. Include container sizes. Write directions in paragraph form, not in steps. Use names of ingredients in the directions. Include temperatures and cooking, chilling, baking and/or freezing times.
