 Eastpointe police are searching for a suspect who was recorded on a home security camera hitting a dog with a broomstick.

EASTPOINTE — Eastpointe police are searching for a man seen on home security video beating a dog with a broomstick Jan. 17.

Police said it appears that the man might have lost his dog and then located it in the backyard of a home on Brittany Street. Brittany runs north and south between 10 Mile Road and Toepfer Drive, east of Gratiot Avenue. While in the yard, according to authorities, it appeared that the man found a broomstick and began to strike the animal. Police confirmed that he did not live at the home where the video was captured.

Public Safety Department personnel said that they are trying to identify the man and ensure that the animal is delivered safely to animal control officials. Anyone with information is asked to call (586) 445-8975.
