MACOMB TOWNSHIP — The Macomb County Department of Roads, or MCDR, is prepared for annual construction and summer maintenance operations.

The department released its 2020 project schedule April 7.

This year’s county construction schedule includes 21 primary and local road projects and four bridges, in addition to 28 asphalt resurfacing and concrete pavement repair projects as part of MCDR’s county-wide pavement preservation program.

The work schedule also includes 10 township residential streets as part of MCDR’s subdivision reconstruction program, various maintenance projects, and traffic technology and communication network modernizations.

“We have a busy schedule planned with more than $74 million in substantial road improvements that will strengthen and enhance Macomb County’s infrastructure and transportation network,” MCDR Director Bryan Santo said. “We are committed to improving Macomb County's infrastructure by effectively delivering quality road and bridge projects.”

An MCDR press release indicates five projects are scheduled this year in Macomb Township. Projects include mitigation and safety measures on 21 Mile Road, east of Heydenreich Road to Card Road, at an estimated cost of just over $1.3 million. That work is scheduled to go from June to August.

Next on the list is bridge replacement on 22 Mile Road over the Salt Slang Gloede Drain, between Hayes and Garfield roads. This replacement comes at an estimated price of just over $1 million, and is expected to last from May to August.

Work scheduled one mile north on 23 Mile Road is road widening from North Avenue to Card Road. Widening is expected to last one year, beginning in August at an estimated cost of roughly $6.5 million.

This project entails widening the road from two lanes to five lanes, with curbs, underground storm drains, sidewalks, new pavement markings, signs, traffic signals, ADA ramps and landscape restoration.

Extension and a new two-lane road is expected on Garfield Road from 22 Mile to 23 Mile roads. This $2.3 million project is expected to last from July to October.

The final project listed for Macomb Township is roundabout work at the intersection of 25 Mile and Romeo Plank roads. Work is scheduled to last from June to October at an estimated cost of around $1.4 million.

There are more than 4,400 miles of roads within Macomb County and MCDR is responsible for maintaining 1,773 miles of roadway in addition to more than 1,100 miles of subdivision streets.
