Motorist cited for public urination
BERKLEY — A 31-year-old woman was cited by Berkley Public Safety for urinating in public at 12:54 a.m. Jan. 1 near the intersection of Greenfield Road and Cambridge Avenue.

According to the report, police observed a black Cadillac SRX on Greenfield stopped in the curb lane with no hazard lights activated. As police passed by the vehicle, an officer observed a woman leaning against the driver’s seat in the roadway and urinating.

The woman said she was heading home, but that she couldn’t make it in time to urinate. Police investigated but determined the woman was not driving drunk. She was issued a citation for urinating in public.

 

Catalytic converter missing after acquaintance borrows car
SOUTHFIELD — A woman told police Jan. 2 that her catalytic converter was taken from her 2015 Kia Forte. 

She told police that she had loaned her vehicle to an acquaintance Dec. 29, and he was supposed to return the vehicle the next day but failed to do so. The woman then tracked her vehicle to apartments in the 24000 block of West 12 Mile Road Jan. 2. 

When she started the vehicle, she realized that the catalytic converter was gone. 

She was unsure who stole it, as the person she loaned the car to had not returned any of her calls. The investigation was ongoing.

 

Customer allegedly threatens staff over sold-out menu items
WEST BLOOMFIELD — At approximately 8:25 p.m. Jan. 14, a customer at a restaurant on Orchard Lake Road reportedly became verbally abusive when he was told that several menu items were sold out.

The customer made verbal threats about physically assaulting an employee, according to a police report.

The customer was gone by the time police arrived.

The case was turned over to detectives.

 

Intoxicated driver strikes bus twice
BIRMINGHAM — On Jan. 28 at approximately 9:11 p.m., a patrol officer observed a vehicle hit a bus from the rear twice along Woodward Avenue before proceeding onto Humphrey. 

The officer observed the vehicle’s driver, a 59-year-old man from Berkley, walking away from the damaged vehicle along Humphrey. The driver  failed a field sobriety evaluation, and a preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol content of twice the legal limit. 

The driver was arrested.

 

Money stolen from ‘off limits’ closet during estate sale
BIRMINGHAM — At approximately 4:12 p.m. on Jan. 27, an officer was dispatched to the 600 block of Ann Street on a report of a larceny. 

A woman said money was stolen from her purse while it was stored in an “off limits” closet during an estate sale she was hosting. Witnesses reported seeing two female suspects rummaging through something in the corner of the closet before hurrying down the stairs and out the door. 

There were no additional witnesses or suspects.

 

Whipped cream taken
ROYAL OAK — A complainant reported to police that at 6:06 p.m. Jan. 28, someone stole two cases of whipped cream canisters from a Mobil gas station located at 1624 E. 11 Mile Road.

 

Man allegedly tries to pass fake bill
BERKLEY — A 26-year-old Detroit man was arrested for possession of counterfeit money, passing counterfeit money and possession of dangerous drugs at 1:16 p.m. Jan. 26 at an A&W restaurant at 4100 W. 12 Mile Road.

According to Berkley police, they received a report of a subject passing fake currency. When public safety officers arrived, they saw the suspect sitting in a black Chrysler 200. Police met with an employee of the restaurant, who stated that the suspect tried using a fake $100 bill.

The suspect reportedly told police that he didn’t know the bill was fake. He was placed in handcuffs and in the back of a patrol vehicle while his car was searched. Police reportedly were able to locate two $50 bills, one $20 bill and two $1 bills that were all fake.

Police said they also located three white pills, which tested positive for oxycodone, in the pocket of the man’s jacket.

 

Unpaid taxi bills reported
WEST BLOOMFIELD — A resident on Buxton Drive stated that a man she does not know was dropped off at her residence by a taxi at 3:15 p.m. Jan. 26.

She reported that it was the third time the same man has been dropped off at her residence, and with each occurrence, the man walks toward her residence and then runs into the neighborhood without paying the taxi bill.

West Bloomfield Police Department officers and detectives believed they had identified a suspect and were set to follow up on possible charges.

 

Police arrest 2 suspects in catalytic converter theft
FERNDALE — Two people were arrested after they were caught allegedly stealing a catalytic converter in Ferndale.

According to a press release, Ferndale police responded at 3:52 a.m. Feb. 16 to the 2400 block of Burdette Street, near Woodward Heights and Hilton Road, for a report of a larceny. The person who called the police heard a saw cutting in a nearby parking lot.

Officers found a man underneath a van with a catalytic converter next to him. The suspect ran and entered a Ford F-150 parked in the lot, driven by a second man.

“The driver quickly reversed, nearly hitting an officer and striking another parked vehicle,” the release states. “Officers shouted commands to stop. The driver disregarded commands and drove forward, nearly striking a second officer. The suspects fled in the F-150 southbound on Burdette St.”

Officers pursued the vehicle, and the pursuit ended when the F-150 crashed into a lane divider at the John C. Lodge service drive and Hubbell Street in Detroit. Both suspects reportedly fled on foot, but police said they were arrested without incident. 

An investigation revealed that the suspects cut a catalytic converter from a Ferndale business van using a Sawzall, according to Ferndale police. Officers recovered two additional catalytic converters, burglary tools and a police scanner inside the suspects’ vehicle.

 

Man reports vehicle missing and then is arrested
TROY — SOUTHFIELD — On Jan. 31, a male victim reported to police that his vehicle had been stolen. He stated that the keys had been taken during a party held at his home where there were several people present. 

The 2013 gray Dodge Dart was recovered two days later when it was returned to the victim’s home on North Park Drive. 

The victim’s stepson was identified as the one who had taken the vehicle. Upon originally filing the report, police discovered that the victim had a warrant for his arrest and thus was taken into custody.

 

Suspect treated for opioid OD after electric shavers stolen from pharmacy
WEST BLOOMFIELD – Two males allegedly stole electric shavers from a pharmacy store on Orchard Lake Road at around 5:15 p.m. Feb. 15.

The suspects left in a black Dodge Journey with items reported to be valued at more than $253.

Officers located the vehicle at Orchard Lake and 14 Mile roads, and were able to recover the stolen items.

One of the suspects was overdosing on narcotics, and officers supplied a nasal spray medicine used for the treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose.

The West Bloomfield Fire Department was contacted to provide medical treatment.

The incident was set to be reviewed by detectives.

 

Resident loses $92K in cryptocurrency fraud
BIRMINGHAM — A Birmingham resident reported he had invested in cryptocurrency but was locked out of his account Feb. 14 at approximately 11 a.m. 

He contacted Coinbase and was advised his account was compromised, and the entire balance of $92,645.15 had been fraudulently transferred to another account. The case was under investigation.

 

Robbery suspects get away with empty bank bag
SOUTHFIELD — Police officers responded to a call from a fast-food restaurant in the 24000 block of Telegraph Road for an armed robbery that had occurred at 9:46 a.m. Feb. 24. 

The reporting party told the officers that three unknown suspects had robbed an armored truck security driver at gunpoint. 

When the officers arrived at the scene, the suspects were gone. 

The reporting victim explained that a black sedan had entered the parking lot. She then observed a tall, slender male with a dark hoodie and mask exit the vehicle with a handgun. The suspect approached the security guard and pointed the gun at his head. The security guard said he was leaving the business with a bag of money and placed it in the armored truck on the passenger’s side. Before he could close the door, he was approached by two males dressed in all black with ski masks on. The first man, without saying anything, pointed a possibly silver handgun at him. The victim states that he slowly backed away from the suspects as they grabbed an empty red bank bag from the armored truck and fled to their vehicle, a black Ford Taurus. The investigation was ongoing. 

 

Resident hired for fake job
WEST BLOOMFIELD — After being hired via Indeed for a job to help with logistics and package pickup, an elderly resident on Westbrooke Drive was told to pick up specific packages at a local UPS store recently.

She was advised by UPS that they had information that she and her husband were being used as “mules” by their new employer. In crime, a mule is someone who moves illegal goods, sometimes unknowingly.

The report states that the company that hired the resident is fraudulent and a front for possibly illegal activity.

The case was turned over to detectives.

 

Woman arrested in PD parking lot
FARMINGTON — Officers responded to the Public Safety Department parking lot for a possible stalking complaint at 11:17 a.m. March 6. Officers found a woman in an irate state and later determined that she was violating a court no-contact order with a protected party. While officers were investigating the situation, the women became aggressive and refused to follow lawful commands given by officers, police said. She was eventually taken into custody and issued a citation for disorderly conduct and obstructing police. 

 

Intoxicated woman reports vehicle missing, then finds it where she left it
SOUTHFIELD — On Mar. 5, A woman went into the police station March 5 to report that her rental car had been stolen between 2:51 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. She told officers that she was intoxicated and tired when she left both key fobs for the vehicle in the center console and then left the vehicle unlocked. 

Later, she realized that she had parked the vehicle elsewhere. At around 11 a.m., she discovered the vehicle where she had left it with the keys still in the center console.

 

Drunken man falls, runs into traffic
ROCHESTER — Officers were dispatched to O’Connor’s Public House for a man who had fallen at approximately 11:50 p.m. March 17. Officers arrived at the scene and located a 41-year-old man from Rochester, who was “highly intoxicated,” according to reports. 

The manager said that, due to the subject’s high level of intoxication, an Uber should be ordered to take the subject home. The subject reportedly became agitated and stated he was going to walk home.

The officers told the man that taking an Uber was the safest way to go home. While speaking with the officers, the subject fell over, got back up and ran into traffic. 

The subject was apprehended and taken into custody. The subject was transported to the Rochester Police Department, where he was offered a preliminary breath test, which yielded a result of 0.25% blood alcohol content. The subject was lodged until sober and was released with a citation.

 

Woman uses scarf to steal from a man at the gas station
SOUTHFIELD — A man stated that on March 15, around 2:30 p.m., he was approached by an unknown woman at a gas station in the 24000 block of Greenfield Road. 

The woman asked him to buy a ring, and when he said no, she continued placing the ring on his left-hand ring finger. The man advised the woman that he was not interested in purchasing the ring. However, the ring got stuck on his finger. The woman then took a scarf and used it to cover his hand to remove the ring. 

Once back in his vehicle, the man noticed that the ring the woman had placed on his finger was gone, along with his own gold-and-diamond ring.

 

Man arraigned after reportedly stealing $600 golf club head
BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — Officers were dispatched to a store in the 1900 block of South Telegraph Road for a larceny from a building incident that had just occurred April 10. 

According to reports, a man was witnessed removing a golf club head from the shaft, concealing it, and stealing it from the business. The club head was valued at $629.99. With the help from the Troy Special Investigations Unit, the man was arrested and taken into custody. A warrant for felony larceny in a building was issued by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office. The man was arraigned in 48th District Court and received a $25,000 cash bond. He was lodged at the Oakland County Jail.

 

Hacker steals cryptocurrency
BIRMINGHAM — On April 21, at approximately 6:36 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of Eton Street on a report of wire fraud. 

The victim, a 24-year-old resident, reported that $100,000 in cryptocurrency was stolen from him. According to his sign-in logs, he believes the fraud occurred April 20, when someone hacked into his computer and transferred money from his account. 

The suspect also attempted to access the victim’s bank account; however, the bank alerted the victim of the fraud. An investigation was ongoing.

 

Sisters robbed in the rain
SOUTHFIELD — A woman said that she and her sister were walking out of the east side of an office building in the 23000 block of Greenfield Road to her sister’s Buick Enclave at 4 p.m. April 3, and due to the heavy rainfall at the time, she was using the front side of her jacket to shield her head from the rain. 

As they were walking to the vehicle, she heard her sister scream loudly, and she then saw an unknown man in all black snatch her sister’s purse while holding a gun in his hand. 

The suspect then fled to a white Ram pickup with tinted windows and chrome wheels. 

The sister stated that they had been at a jewelry store prior to the incident getting jewelry cleaned. She reports that while they were walking to her vehicle, an unknown man drove up behind her, got out of his truck and approached her with a handgun. He pointed it at her and took her Gucci purse with cash, a credit union card and a necklace. The surveillance video from the office building confirmed the incident, and the investigation was ongoing. 

 

Man says he accidentally stole groceries
BIRMINGHAM — Officers were dispatched to a local store on a report of a retail fraud in progress at 5:57 p.m. April 2. 

Officers made contact with a 68-year-old Birmingham man who was standing in front of the store with a cart full of un-bagged groceries totaling approximately $288. 

Employees reported that they had attempted to confront the individual outside of the store before contacting police. 

The suspect confirmed that he did not pay for the items and advised that he was preoccupied while on his phone and did not intend to steal the items.

The individual was issued a citation and was advised to contact the court.

 

GPS tracks car theft suspect
FARMINGTON — On April 3, a resident went to the front desk of the police station to report that his vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot of a local business. 

He said that the stolen vehicle belongs to his business and has GPS tracking. 

He told police that he would contact the appropriate agency if he sees the vehicle moving on GPS. After taking the initial report, Livonia police advised that they had recovered the vehicle and had a suspect in custody. 

 

Deputies recover stolen vehicle, arrest 2 for fleeing and eluding
ROCHESTER HILLS — The Oakland County Sheriff’s Operations Center advised deputies in Rochester Hills of a stolen vehicle traveling on Rochester Road at 5:12 p.m. April 1. 

When deputies arrived in the area, they located the vehicle and tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed. 

Deputies initiated a pursuit, which continued until the stolen vehicle left the roadway at Interstate 75 and Wattles Road and came to a rest. The four occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. Pontiac deputies, along with officers from the Troy Police Department, arrived at the scene to assist. 

Deputies took a 43-year-old man from Waterford Township into custody without incident a short distance from the vehicle. 

The driver, a 51-year-old woman from Mount Clemens, was found in a dumpster and was taken into custody without incident. 

The two additional subjects were not located. 

A vehicle inventory revealed stolen tools, knives, suspected narcotics and paraphernalia, a stun gun, and ammunition. The stolen vehicle was impounded. 

The 43-year-old man from Waterford Township was issued citations and was released. The 51-year-old woman from Mount Clemens was lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending the issuance of charges.

 

Man suspected of driving drunk urinates on police car
BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — Officers stopped a silver Jeep Cherokee with an expired registration for speeding on Square Lake Road April 29. 

After contacting the driver, officers suspected that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver was also driving on a suspended license and had several warrants for his arrest due to traffic offenses. 

The driver refused all standard sobriety tests and was subsequently handcuffed and arrested for operating while intoxicated. 

After the driver was handcuffed, police said, he was able to manipulate his pants and urinate on the patrol car. He then initially refused to get into the police car, but eventually complied and took a seat. 

Once in the car, the driver became extremely agitated, according to reports. Officers obtained a search warrant for a blood draw, and he was transported to a local hospital for medical staff to obtain a blood sample. 

The driver was held for several hours at the hospital “due to his intoxicated state.” The driver was later released from custody while the Bloomfield Township Police Department awaited the blood sample results. Charges were pending.

 

Laser light jeopardizes helicopter
MADISON HEIGHTS — Trooper 2, a Michigan State Police helicopter, was in flight at 9 p.m. May 16 when it was struck by a green-colored laser, which was reportedly later traced back to an address in Madison Heights. A male suspect in the 26700 block of Osmun Avenue was arrested and a laser device was located on his person.

“It is a crime, both federal and state, to point a laser at an aircraft,” Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said in a prepared statement. “We are fortunate that no one was hurt (and that) the aircraft didn’t crash in this incident.”

He added that the suspect, 44, was transported to the Metro North Post, processed and released pending prosecutor review. 

 

Lost wallet found by fellow shopper
NOVI — A woman filed an online police report after her wallet was stolen from a handheld shopping basket at an unidentified store between 6:20 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. May 2. She had placed the wallet in the basket while she shopped. She told police she put the basket down several times but never walked away from it, but she did turn her back away from it multiple times. The woman said she didn’t realize the wallet was missing until she went to check out.  

The dark blue wallet contained her driver’s license, $55 in cash, credit cards and five miscellaneous gift cards worth $228.25. Police advised her to cancel all her cards that she lost and to call the three major credit bureaus and report the cards as stolen. The woman said none of the cards had been used. 

On May 10, the woman informed police that her wallet had been returned to her. She stated a female shopper had placed the wallet in between her front door and screen door shortly after the initial incident, with a note. The shopper explained that she did not trust the store employees and decided to drop it off instead. 

The owner of the wallet stated she does not use the front door, which created the delay in finding the wallet. All contents were present except for the cash. 

 

Woman tasered after noise complaints bring police to party
ROCHESTER HILLS — Deputies were dispatched to the 1600 block of Bedford Square for a noise complaint from a loud party at 12:59 a.m. April 23. 

Deputies spoke with the lessee, a 23-year-old from Auburn Hills. Deputies were called back out to the location a second time on the same loud party complaint and witnessed a large party spill out into the hallway. 

Fights ensued between people attending the party, but deputies were able to de-escalate several of the altercations. At that time, a fight broke out between a 22-year-old from Pontiac and a 21-year-old from Pontiac. Deputies attempted to separate the two females, who continued to fight around and over deputies. Police had to deploy a Taser to gain control over one of the females. Both were then taken into custody.

The two females were issued citations, and one of them was treated by the Rochester Fire Department, was transported to the Oakland County Jail for processing and was released pending further investigation. The apartment lessee was also issued citations. 

 

Classmate’s parents accused of attacking student 
SOUTHFIELD — On May 16 at 8:42 a.m., officers were summoned to a school in the 16000 block of Mount Vernon to speak with a student regarding an alleged assault from the day before. The student stated that the day before, at 3:10 p.m., he was riding his bike southbound on Evergreen Road, near 12 Mile Road, when a black truck came at him. To avoid being hit, he had to get off his bike.

After the commotion, he saw the father of a classmate that he had been having issues with exit the truck and walk toward him. The student stated that he ran towards a nearby church’s parking lot, and the father allegedly chased him. The parent is accused of knocking the student to the ground and assaulting him. 

While the student was on the ground, his classmate’s mother and his classmate began kicking and assaulting him, according to a police report. A person passing by observed the fight and approached, yelling at the family to stop. 

The student got up and hid in a nearby backyard, where he called his mom for help. 

He told police that his bike and shoes were stolen during the attack. He suffered several injuries to his face, so he was transported to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment. 

The investigation was ongoing, and police found that this appeared to be an ongoing problem between the two students.

 

Police take juveniles into custody for stolen vehicle
BERKLEY — Three juveniles were taken into custody at 2:50 a.m. May 28 for multiple offenses near Catalpa Drive and Greenfield Road.

According to a police report, police noticed a vehicle tapping its brakes at green lights and striking a curb. An attempt was made to pull over the vehicle, but it began traveling at a speed of 80 mph. The vehicle’s driver disobeyed stop signs and continued driving until the vehicle came to a dead end. The three occupants then fled the vehicle on foot.

Police said they used a K-9 unit to track and locate three suspects, ages 12, 15 and 16. One of the juveniles had been reported as missing since May 14, according to the report.

The vehicle was found to have been stolen in Detroit earlier that night. The three suspects were taken into custody for third-degree fleeing and eluding, resisting/obstructing a police officer, receiving/concealing stolen property, and curfew violations.

 

Purse snatcher returns to the scene of the crime 
SOUTHFIELD — A woman contacted police at 3:59 p.m. June 26 to report her purse missing from her vehicle in the 23000 block of Lahser Road. 

She told police that she knew the individual who took her purse. The suspect returned to the area while the officers were at the scene. 

Officers observed a purse matching the victim’s description in the suspect’s vehicle. The purse was recovered, and the suspect was arrested for larceny from auto and outstanding warrants.

 

Scantily clad man accused of touching himself in front of females
WEST BLOOMFIELD — Female pedestrians told police that they saw a male watching them from his car as they began walking on a trail at Arrowhead and Pontiac Trail at 1:17 p.m. June 8. 

When they returned to their vehicle, the male exited his vehicle in a Speedo and short shirt, and allegedly put his hand within the Speedo.

The females quickly left the scene.

Officers arrived, spoke to the male subject, cited him for obscene conduct and escorted him from the area, the report states.

 

Man stops car theft with Ring doorbell alarm
SOUTHFIELD — A resident in the 28000 block of Valley Forge received a notification from his Ring doorbell that someone was in his driveway at 2:41 a.m. June 7. 

When he opened the Ring app, he saw a suspect in his mother’s vehicle. 

He hit the alarm on the Ring doorbell to scare off the victim.

The suspect initially ran south on Valley Forge and then headed westbound across the road and through yards toward Lahser Road. 

The reporting party checked the vehicle and noted that nothing was taken.

 

Man steals king crab legs, drops them in parking lot and flees
BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — The Bloomfield Township Police Department took a retail fraud report at Nino Salvaggio’s, 6592 Telegraph Road, on June 13. 

According to reports, an unknown man attempted to steal $503.15 worth of king crab legs from the store. 

The suspect ran out of the store toward the parking lot, and dropped the tote of crab legs. 

The suspect fled from the store in a black Ford Escape. 

Video surveillance was not obtained. The case was under investigation.

 

Stolen vehicle recovered before victim reported it missing
SOUTHFIELD — Police recovered a stolen vehicle that was left running and unattended in a parking lot in the 25000 block of West 12 Mile Road at 7:10 p.m. July 16. 

The 2021 Kia Forte’s back driver’s side window was broken out, and there was damage to the ignition. Police contacted the registered owner, who was unaware that the vehicle was missing. 

 

Ex-girlfriend takes Tesla charger, leaves chewing gum as evidence
NOVI — A resident called police July 13 after he returned home and found his garage open and his Tesla charger missing. The culprit reportedly had left pieces of chewing gum on the front door and on the door inside the garage.

The man said that when he left his home at 9 a.m., his garage door was down. Upon returning home at 7 p.m., he found the door open. He explained that he does not live with anyone, so no one else should have had access to his home. He said the only thing missing was the Tesla charging box, valued at $200, which had been plugged into an outlet on the east wall inside the garage. 

He also pointed out that there was now chewing gum on the keyhole of the doorknob on the door inside the garage that leads into the house. There was also chewing gum on the doorknob on the front of the house, according to the report.  

The man told police that some of his family members, as well as his ex-girlfriend, have the code for the garage. The man said he recently broke up with his now ex-girlfriend and believes that she might have stolen the charger. Since he broke up with her two weeks earlier, he said that he has had to block her on all social media, as well as his phone. He told police she might steal the charger just to cause an inconvenience in his life. He told police that his ex is aware of his work hours and when the house would be empty.

Police reportedly were able to locate fingerprints in the gum that had been chewed and pressed into the doorknobs. The man rescinded his initial request to press charges and asked that police ask his ex-girlfriend if she has the charger and to return it to him. 

Police said the ex-girlfriend admitted to taking it and returned it to him July 17. The case was closed.

 

Clothing destroyed
MADISON HEIGHTS — According to a police report, two residents of Madison Heights — ages 37 and 40 — destroyed each other’s clothing during an incident in the 1600 block of Christine Terrace around 5 p.m. July 25. 

The investigation was ongoing.

 

Woman allegedly acts as decoy for truck theft 
NOVI — A woman apparently acted as a diversion to steal a pickup truck full of tools from two journeyman linemen at a hotel in the 27000 block of South Karevich Drive, near Novi Road and Interstate 96, at around midnight July 30.

According to a police report, the woman pulled up to the linemen in a newer black sedan and claimed to be lost. While this was happening, one of the linemen saw the pickup truck, which had been parked on the east side of the building, pull out, but the lineman apparently thought it was a coworker driving at the time. 

The stolen 2007 Chevrolet Silverado contained a pair of Oakley Sutro sunglasses and linemen’s equipment valued at more than $5,000. The stolen equipment included Buckingham climbers, a Bashlin climbing belt, a Buckingham Bucksqueeze fall restriction device, a Milwaukee half-inch impact driver, and many wrenches and other hand tools.

Some of the items were later found in the area of Westfield Avenue and Auburn Street in Detroit — near Evergreen and West Chicago roads — according to the report. The case was closed pending more information. 

Inclement weather earlier that week had resulted in widespread power outages in southeast Michigan.

 

Men in Charger try to steal Challenger
NOVI — At around 6:45 p.m. July 21, security video at the Emagine Novi recorded a red or orange Dodge Charger driving in the parking lot. Two men got out of the Charger, which kept driving slowly north, and circled a dark green 2023 Dodge Challenger parked in the lot.

In the video, one of the suspects breaks the Challenger’s passenger-side window and enters the vehicle at 6:47 p.m. The other suspect stood next to the passenger door. A minute later, both men circled back to the Charger, which was now parked north of the Challenger, and they left the scene.

According to the police report, the window damage was estimated to cost $125. The suspects apparently took a pair of prescription sunglasses valued at $120 and tried without success to hotwire the car.

The owner of the Challenger reportedly told police that he initially had parked his vehicle on the other side of the building and then moved it to where he thought it would be safer from a break-in. The owner said he would like to press charges if the men are apprehended. A bulletin was put out for the men.

 

Woman throws punches at bar staff, resists arrest
ROCHESTER — A police officer was dispatched to a bar in the 200 block of Main Street for a woman who was passed out in a bar bathroom at 1:15 a.m. July 15. 

The officer found a woman lying on the sidewalk by the main entrance of the bar.

As the officer was walking up to the subject, the officer saw a woman, later identified as a 29-year-old from Eastpointe, throwing punches at an unknown subject at the main entrance to the bar. 

Staff stated that the woman was hitting and biting staff members, and they escorted her out of the building. 

Officers at the scene attempted to place her into custody for disorderly conduct, which she resisted, and she was assisted to the ground by police. Once she was on the ground, officers were able to put her in handcuffs and place her in the patrol vehicle without injury. 

She was transported to the Rochester Police Department, where she was processed and lodged without incident.

 

Jewelry scammers attempt theft
TROY — An attempted theft reportedly occurred at 3:31 p.m. July 20 when a victim was approached in the 2800 block of Charter Drive by unknown male and female suspects driving a pickup truck.

According to the police, the suspects told the victim that their mother recently had passed away and they were giving away her gold jewelry and money. 

One of the suspects put several supposedly gold necklaces, bracelets and rings on the victim and handed her $80 cash. 

As the suspect put the jewelry on the victim, she discreetly removed the victim’s actual gold jewelry that she had been wearing and attempted to conceal it. 

The victim realized what was happening and was able to grab her jewelry back and run, according to police. The suspects then fled the area in their vehicle.

 

Man accused of ripping necklace from woman’s neck
BIRMINGHAM — At approximately 9 p.m. Aug. 4, officers were dispatched to a restaurant on Peabody Street for a strong-arm robbery. 

The victim, a 34-year-old woman from Oak Park, reported that the suspect, a 36-year-old man from Redford, had ripped a necklace and pendant valued at $15,500 from her neck as she sat in the bar area. 

The witness said she followed the suspect, who is her ex-boyfriend, outside and saw him drive away. Several witnesses to the encounter corroborated the victim’s story. An investigation was ongoing.

 

Troy woman bangs on police barrier with chair
BIRMINGHAM — On Aug. 14 at approximately 7 a.m, officers were dispatched to the front lobby of the Birmingham Police Department for an individual hitting the plexiglass barrier with a chair. 

Officers observed damage to the chair and plexiglass consistent with being struck by an object. The suspect, a 35-year-old woman from Troy, appeared intoxicated and refused to answer officers’ questions. 

She was arrested and charged with malicious destruction of property.

 

Motorcycle flees with helmetless child lying on gas tank
ROCHESTER HILLS — Deputies on patrol around Rochester Road and South Boulevard saw a motorcycle northbound on Rochester Road, passing in between vehicles recklessly at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 25. 

The suspect, a 40-year-old man from Troy, had a 6-year-old girl lying on the gas tank of the vehicle with no helmet. The first deputy was unable to reach the motorcycle for a traffic stop because of heavy traffic. 

Minutes later, a 911 caller reported the same motorcycle with the child lying on the gas tank near Rochester Road and Auburn. 

Deputies checked the area and located the motorcycle as it exited a gas station parking lot near Hamlin and Rochester roads. 

A deputy attempted to stop the vehicle southbound on Rochester Road, south of Hamlin, for reckless driving and child endangerment. The suspect did not stop and fled from the deputy southbound on Rochester Road. The deputy self-terminated the pursuit immediately out of concern for the safety and welfare of the child. The deputy obtained a license plate, which led to the identification of the driver and an address. The suspect was located at his residence in Troy, and with the assistance of the Troy Police Department, was taken into custody for fleeing and eluding and child neglect. He was lodged at the Oakland County jail. The child was located unharmed. 

The case was turned over to the detective bureau for the warrant request. Child Protective Services was also notified.

 

Police rescue children from river
ROCHESTER HILLS — Deputies responded to the 1000 block of Van Hoosen on a report of two children missing after floating in the river on a wakeboard at 1:45 p.m. Aug. 16. The mother had not seen the children, an 11-year-old girl from Auburn Hills and a 10-year-old boy from Rochester, in 45 minutes.

While police were en route, a drone was requested to assist. Rochester police assisted with the incident by checking the river’s edge in their areas, and within minutes, the children were located. They had floated down the Clinton River near downtown Rochester and had flagged down officers for help. 

The children were uninjured and transported safely back to their mother.

 

Used cooking oil stolen from restaurant
ROCHESTER HILLS — Deputies were dispatched to a restaurant in the 200 block of Tienken Road on a report of a white box truck behind the business, near the dumpsters, at 12:14 a.m. Aug. 16. The caller was able to give a plate on the vehicle. 

Deputies located a vehicle matching the description given with an out-of-state plate that matched what the caller had reported. Deputies contacted the two occupants of the vehicle, who were found to be stealing used cooking oil from the business using a generator and a vat to hold the grease in the box of the truck. Per the caller, the used cooking oil is worth several thousand dollars. 

The suspects — a 36-year-old man from Brooklyn, New York, and a 34-year-old man from Philadelphia — were lodged at the Oakland County Jail, and the box truck was impounded.

 

Realtor finds suspected arson attempt in vacant home
FARMINGTON — Police responded to a vacant home in the 23000 block of Lilac Street for a report of a residential breaking and entering at 4:30 p.m. July 23.

A Realtor and cleaning company had discovered that the back door to the home had been kicked in and was on the floor. They also discovered that the house was very hot inside. They found that the electric stovetop burners were all turned on. The oven was also turned on, with the oven door open.

There was a paint can and several other items inside the oven. The scene was processed for evidence, and the case was turned over to the detective bureau for further investigation. 

 

Breakdown results in alcohol, drugs, indecent exposure charges
TROY — Troy police took two suspects into custody at 4:32 a.m. Sept. 2 on northbound Interstate 75, near Wattles Road.

Officers were called for a report of a disabled 2021 Nissan Armada on the side of the expressway. Police found two occupants trying to flag down passing cars. The passenger, a 26-year-old man from Wiley, was heavily intoxicated and had a case of beer at his feet as well as an open beer. 

The driver, a 25-year-old Texas man, said he did not have a driver’s license. He consented to a search of his vehicle and person, according to police, and officers said they located a baggie containing a white powder that they later confirmed to be cocaine, as well as two additional baggies in his right sock. He was charged with one count of possession of cocaine.

The passenger was issued a citation for open intoxicants in a motor vehicle and was transported to a Troy Police Department lobby to await someone to pick him up. While waiting in the lobby, he removed all his clothes and was observed completely naked in front of the building’s public entrance. He was charged with indecent exposure.

 

Freezer stolen from garage
WEST BLOOMFIELD — Sometime between Sept. 2 and 9, an unknown person or persons stole a freezer from an open garage, according to a police report.

The freezer reportedly contained fish.

The value of the freezer was reported to be $375.

The case was turned over to detectives for review.

 

Brother-sister argument leads to stabbing
NOVI — Police were called to a residence in the area of Grand River Avenue and Meadowbrook Road at 9:50 p.m. on Sept. 9 after a woman stabbed her brother in the abdomen with a steak knife, according to a Novi police report. 

When officers arrived, they found a man sitting in a chair in the garage holding his abdomen with his left hand. The man reportedly told police that his sister is a convicted felon and that she stabbed him. 

According to the report, when he told his sister that she had stabbed him, her response was, “Whatever, loser,” and she sat back down on the couch.  

Police found drops of blood throughout the home and into the garage. The sister was taken into custody and charged with felonious assault, police said. According to the police report, she said that she was upset because her brother continuously sprays Axe body spray around the house and that he called her a “fat clown.” 

She then claimed to be having chest pain, according to the report, and was taken to the hospital. She consented to a preliminary breath test, which came back at 0.124% blood alcohol content. 

Police said the woman was booked for the assault and given a $50,000 bond no 10%. 

 

Business targeted by scammers
TROY — The Haagen-Dazs ice cream store at 2800 W. Big Beaver Road was targeted by scammers Sept. 15.

Employees told police that they were contacted by an unknown male claiming to be the store manager. The man told them that their IT department had been compromised and that they needed to remove the money in the store from the cash register and safe and then deliver the money to the nearest retailer, where they were then instructed to use the funds to purchase a MoneyPak card and give the card’s registration number to the caller.

The employees realized this was suspicious before giving him the numbers. 

 

Father stabs man after entering his home, chasing 10-year-old daughter
ROCHESTER HILLS — Deputies were dispatched to the 2900 block of Alexander Street on the report of a home invasion at 7:43 p.m. Sept. 27. 

The caller, a 52-year-old man from Rochester Hills, reported that an unknown male entered his home and was chasing his 10-year-old daughter. He said his 10-year-old daughter had been confronted by the suspect outside their residence, when the suspect became agitated and chased his daughter into their home. The homeowner said he confronted the suspect, whom he did not know, and a physical confrontation ensued, and he stabbed the suspect in the chest. 

The suspect was last seen exiting the garage.

A responding deputy observed a male matching the suspect’s description attempting to enter a home next door. The suspect, a 35-year-old man from Novi, was taken into custody after a short struggle.

Deputies later discovered that the suspect was staying with a girlfriend near the victim’s residence.

The Rochester Hills Fire Department arrived and transported the suspect to the hospital for treatment of a stab wound and then to the substation to be interviewed. He was later transported to the Oakland County Jail and lodged, pending issuance of charges.

 

Man arrested for carrying large knife
SOUTHFIELD — Officers responded to a call about a man carrying a large knife in the parking lot of the 26000 block of Evergreen Road at 10:46 p.m. Oct. 2. 

When police arrived, they saw that the suspect had the knife in hand and arrested him at the scene. The blade was 8 to 10 inches.

ROCHESTER HILLS — Deputies were dispatched to Thelma Spencer Park for a larceny report at 12:02 p.m. Oct. 2. 

The park manager told police a large trail map sign was taken sometime over the last few days. Extra patrols of the parks were requested.

 

Drunken man refuses to leave bathroom
ROCHESTER HILLS — Deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of East Auburn Road for an intoxicated 31-year-old man from Troy refusing to leave the property at 10:31 p.m. Oct. 7. 

Deputies located the man, who was sleeping on the bathroom floor next to a liquor bottle, and knew he had warrants for his arrest. Deputies arrested the suspect, and he consented to a preliminary breath test with results of 0.14% blood alcohol content. He was transported to the hospital for detoxification, and the report was sent to the city prosecutor’s office for issuance of charges of disorderly conduct. 

 

Man arrested after pushing father off bike into road, pulling knife
ROCHESTER HILLS — Deputies responded to the area of Walton and Shagbark for a report of assault and battery at 5:08 p.m. Oct. 8.

A father, age 50, and son, age 11, were riding their bicycles west on Walton when a 35-year-old man from Rochester Hills, who was walking on the sidewalk, attempted to push the son into the road. The son was able to evade, and the suspect then pushed the father off his bike onto Walton.

A 31-year-old male motorist saw the father fall and stopped to assist. 

The suspect pulled out and unfolded a knife toward the motorist, who drove off and updated dispatch on the suspect’s location. 

The suspect continued walking eastbound on Walton. Deputies arrived and approached the suspect, who ran across Walton and was chased between vehicles before being taken into custody. The father and son declined medical treatment. The suspect was taken to the Oakland County Jail for lodging. 

 

Pair charged with stealing from Kmart site
TROY — Two suspects were arrested after being found trespassing inside the former Kmart headquarters, 3100 W. Big Beaver Road, which is currently being demolished.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. Oct. 1. Officers saw that a portion of the fence surrounding the site had been knocked over. Inside, a 53-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman, both from Flint, were found allegedly trying to steal copper piping from inside the building.

The woman also was found carrying a black leather fanny pack containing crystal methamphetamine, two pipes and crack cocaine. The male suspect was charged with one count of breaking and entering a building with intent and one count of possession of burglar’s tools. The female suspect was charged with one count of breaking and entering a building with intent and one count of possession of cocaine, heroin or another narcotic, less than 25 grams.

 

Police look for man passing bogus ‘motion picture’ money
ROCHESTER HILLS — Deputies were dispatched to a grocery store in the 1100 block of South Rochester Road for a report of a person passing “motion picture” fake U.S. currency at 12:06 p.m. Nov. 24. The same person — a man in his late 20s — reportedly did this twice, once Oct. 15 and again Oct. 24. 

The person purchased less than $6 in product and gave the clerk a $50 fake bill. The manager provided video of the suspect. The case was turned over to detectives for further investigation.

 

Weapon confiscated by officers
WEST BLOOMFIELD — A resident brought a handgun to the West Bloomfield Police Department to have it registered at 2:38 p.m. Nov. 20.

The gun belonged to the ex-husband of the resident’s wife.

However, the serial number on the weapon had been scratched off.

The weapon was confiscated by officers and was sent to a crime lab for analysis.

 

Driver charged after driving into construction site
TROY — At 4:59 p.m. on Nov. 15, Troy police officers were dispatched to the area of Long Lake Road and Rochester Road for a report that a white BMW had driven into a construction zone and was now stuck in an unfinished stretch of road. 

Upon arrival, officers observed the BMW had become stuck on a large roll of construction material. Officers spoke with the driver, a 59-year-old Bloomfield Hills man, and noted he had bloodshot and glassy eyes and that there was a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his breath. He was taken into custody and submitted to a chemical breath test, with results of a 0.19% blood alcohol level. 

He was issued a citation for operating with a blood alcohol content of 0.17% or more.

 

Naked man arrested after threatening to kill motel employee
ROCHESTER HILLS — Deputies responded to a motel in the 3500 block of Marketplace Circle for a male subject walking naked on the second floor and threatening to kill staff at 4:14 a.m. Nov. 2. 

Deputies spoke to the night laundry attendant, who stated she saw the man naked in the hallway on the second floor and that he said he was going to kill her. He reportedly made a gun gesture with his hand. Deputies located the subject, a 48-year-old Warren man, still naked on the second floor and took him into custody without incident. Deputies transported the subject to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and cited him for disorderly conduct.
