WARREN — Warren firefighters were called to assist four people who were stuck in the elevator at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital on Dec. 1.
“No one was hurt or needed medical attention,” said Warren Fire Commissioner Skip McAdams. “They were a little anxious and relieved to get out of there.”
According to McAdams, the cause of the elevator stopping is unknown; however, there were issues with the elevator for more than a week.
“There have been problems with the elevator bank for two weeks, but this is the first time it was stuck,” McAdams said.
The call came in at 9:34 a.m. on Thursday. The Warren Fire Department arrived on the scene at 9:39 a.m. and proceeded to the elevator. The elevator was stuck between the third and fourth floors.
“We shut the power off, secured the elevator car and used a ladder to access and remove the victims through the third floor,” said McAdams.
It took less than 20 minutes for all four people in the elevator to be released.
“The scene was cleared at 9:58 a.m.,” Warren Fire Chief Orin Ferguson said.
“We receive about one to three calls like this a year,” said McAdams. “We have an average response time of five minutes, more than 90% of the time.”
The hospital, located at 11800 12 Mile Road, was previously known as St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital.
