SHELBY TOWNSHIP — On March 24, representatives from Shelby Township and the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce came together for the State of the Township address to share a comprehensive look at the recent accomplishments and plans in the township.

Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis delivered the address at the Amazon Fulfillment Center DET2 facility located within the township.

President and CEO of the Macomb County Chamber Kelley Lovati said it was an impressive turnout for the State of Shelby Township event.

“Shelby Township continues to be a highlighted community for ‘Making Macomb Your Home’ for family or business. Supervisor Stathakis shared information regarding the new library, new walkable trails and the high scores received by the school district,” she said via email.

At the event, township and other officials spoke about the local parks, public safety, the new township library, rising property values and the municipal water storage tank, explaining its role as Shelby Township tries to keep rates low.

Lynde Oddo, Shelby Township deputy supervisor, said Stathakis delivered an affirmative message about why Shelby Township is a good place to live.

“I’m amazed at the collaboration and teamwork put in behind the scenes from our Community Relations Department, the Macomb County Chamber and Amazon. Despite Amazon having high security, our attendees were able to enjoy the event with a smooth check-in and we even got a hospitable tour after the event. I want to thank Amazon for opening their doors and allowing us to hold the State of Shelby Township at their facility,” she said in an email.

Stathakis said he is grateful for the hard work of Oddo and the Macomb County Chamber to secure a unique venue, the Amazon DET2 facility, for this year’s address.

“It’s one thing for me to talk about the business successes and opportunities in the township, but when I can deliver the address in a facility that symbolizes all those things, it means much more. And after Ms. Oddo, the Macomb Chamber and Amazon helped us fill the room, our Community Relations Department helped me communicate what we are proud of in Shelby Township and raise awareness for many exciting things we have going on,” he said via email.
