SHELBY TOWNSHIP — The Shelby Gardeners Club will be hosting a spring gardening presentation at 1 p.m. Feb. 9 for all gardening enthusiasts with presenter Marilyn Trent from the Rochester Pollinators.
The presentation will cover the do’s and don’ts of spring gardening. The presentation is called “Spring Clean Up…Not Too Soon,” and it is free to attend. The event will be held at the Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center, 4101 River Bends Drive in Shelby Township.
The presentation will cover the basics of when to do spring cleanup and why one should wait to start.
Nadine Thacker is the Shelby Gardeners Club’s program director. Thacker said that gardeners must know what to do to help pollinators thrive.
“Everyone loves pollinators. As gardeners, we are always looking for ways to provide a habitat for our birds, bees and beneficial insects. They depend on us to restore the plants they need to survive,” said Thacker.
Shelby Gardeners Club media contact Ivy Schwartz is looking forward to the presentation, especially after the persistently cloudy skies this month.
“We thrive on color, especially in the winter, especially this bleak January. We are an extension of nature. We need to connect to Mother Earth,” she said.
