ROSEVILLE — Roseville police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Sept. 3.
According to police, officers from the Roseville Police Department were dispatched to southbound Gratiot Avenue, south of 12 Mile Road, for a report of a crash and a serious injury at 2:30 a.m. Sept. 3. At the scene, officers found that a car and a scooter had collided, killing the driver of the scooter.
Investigators said it appears that a 29-year-old Eastpointe woman was driving a scooter-style motorcycle and was traveling in the right lane of Gratiot Avenue when a 24-year-old Roseville man driving a Mitsubishi Spyder went to change lanes from the center lane to the right lane and apparently did not see her or her vehicle, bringing about the collision.
The driver of the Spyder remained at the scene and was taken into custody by the Roseville Police Department. Police officials said alcohol appears to be a factor, but as of Sept. 4, no charges had been filed.
“Currently, the Roseville man driving the Spyder is in custody at the Roseville Police Department pending the issuance of charges, if any, by the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office,” said Roseville Police Chief James Berlin in an email. “It is believed that alcohol was a contributing factor in the cause of this crash; however, the investigation is in its initial stages and we still have much to learn as to what occurred to cause this tragedy.”
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the facts of the case. Police officials said such an investigation can take several days, if not weeks, to complete.
