Kids camp to teach cheerleading
The Sterling Heights Community Center’s Dance Studio 3, 40250 Dodge Park Road, will host a Cheer Camp 10 a.m.-noon July 17-20. The camp will teach kids ages 5-10 various cheerleading techniques and let them briefly perform on the final day.

Learn about Lincoln
An actor and reenactor who portrays Abraham Lincoln will perform and expound on the 16th U.S. president’s life at the Sterling Heights Senior Center, 40200 Utica Road, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. June 28. Professional Lincoln presenter Kevin Wood will play the role of the historical figure.

City to close for Independence Day
Several municipal buildings will shut down July 4 for Independence Day. Closed buildings will include City Hall, the 41-A District Court, the library, the Department of Public Works, and the community, senior, nature and recycling centers.

Teen summer camp to have painting activity
The Sterling Heights Community Center’s Teen Room, 40250 Dodge Park Road, will host a “Painting with a Twist” teen summer camp activity for minors ages 12-17. The camp will take place 6:30-8 p.m. July 12 and 19, and Aug. 2.

Local parks host Recreation on the Run
Many of the city’s neighborhood parks are holding Recreation on the Run events this summer, which will feature various outdoor activities.

Remaining events include the following:

• July 10, Chappelle Park, 35748 Ensign. Officials say this event will include archery.

• July 17, Arlingdale Park, 2300 Jonathan Drive.

• July 24, Fairfield Park, 38345 Cheviot.

• July 31 - Hampton Park, 4600 Franklin Park.

• Aug. 7 - Imus Park, 37651 Dodge Park Road.

• Aug. 14 - Hadley Park, 11000 Canal.

• Aug. 21 - College Park, 14722 Rice.

• Aug. 28 - Washington Square Park, 14760 Potomac /14645 Stadler.
