MADISON HEIGHTS — As lead pastor of Gospel Life Church, Pastor Jeff Swanson wants people to know it is a place where they can feel welcomed and renewed.
That mission is especially important, he said, for people who may have stepped away from church—or never found the right fit.
“Some people may feel the church is irrelevant,” Pastor Jeff said.
His path to ministry began unexpectedly in 1990, when a pastor who lived next door invited him to Wednesday night Bible study at what was then Community Baptist Church. At the time, he said, preaching was the last thing he imagined.
“I was quiet and reserved back then,” he said, adding that he felt God was calling him into ministry.
Now, after two years as a pastor and stepping into the lead role, he is focused on building a welcoming future for the church.
When people visit Gospel Life Church, he hopes they feel warmth, love and a sense of belonging. Music also plays an important role, with multiple worship teams and styles designed to connect with a variety of people.
Beyond Sunday services, Pastor Jeff continues his ministry through daily Bible verses and prayers sent by text message. He said his sermons are rooted in Scripture but also in everyday life, including the need to clear away distractions and make room for what matters most.
That message reflects his heart for people who are hurting. “As they say, ‘hurt people hurt people,’” he said. “Many people today are broken.”
That is why Gospel Life Church aims to be a place of faith, love, hope and togetherness without judgment. He also wants families and children to feel supported.
Gospel Life Church invites the community to attend its upcoming Good Friday healing service on April 3 and Easter Sunday celebration on April 5. Guests will hear music, join in prayer and receive a message of renewal.
