Tudor Dixon has emerged as the presumed winner of the Aug. 2 race for a Republican gubernatorial nominee.

At press time, with 77 out of 83 counties reporting on the state of Michigan’s elections website, Dixon won with 38.9%, which means she’ll vie against incumbent Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in November.

Dixon was followed by Kevin Rinke, 21.7%; Garrett Soldano, 19.3%; Ryan Kelley, 15.9%; and Ralph Rebandt, 4.2%.

In the state House of Representatives race for the 58th District, Michelle Smith defeated Giovanni Ndrea 83.4% to 16.6%. Smith will contend against the unopposed Democrat Nate Shannon in November.

The fifth district of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners was contested for both major parties. Among the Democrats, Robert Mijac bested Pashko Ujkic 75% to 25%. Among the Republicans, Don VanSyckel won with 38.7% of the vote. VanSyckel was followed by Jackie Ryan, 34.5%; and Gary Lusk, 26.8%.

For the Macomb County Board of Commissioners’ sixth district, Joseph Romano won over Eric Briskey 61.8% to 38.2%. Romano will go on to face unopposed Democrat Carole Chi in the general election.
