Collaboration Drives Success at Griffin’s Neighborhood Auto Clinic

FARMINGTON HILLS — At Griffin’s Neighborhood Auto Clinic, teamwork is more than a catchphrase — it’s the foundation of how the shop operates.

Owner Bill Griffin said success depends on creating an environment where employees respect one another, share ideas and work together toward the same goal.

“We don’t run a dictatorship,” Bill said. “This is a group effort, and everybody’s voice matters. We spend more time with each other than with our families, so it’s important that respect comes first.”

That culture is visible in the shop every day. Mistakes are treated as opportunities to learn rather than reasons for blame, and employees are encouraged to bring forward solutions as well as concerns. Bill sees himself as “a compilation of everybody I’ve gotten to work with,” and tries to instill the same collaborative outlook in his team.

Shop foreman Vince White, a 35-year veteran, models that philosophy with patience and leadership. “He empowers apprentices rather than making them feel small when they hit a learning curve,” Bill said.

Curt Dewitt, who joined the team two years ago after more than two decades at a Chevrolet dealership, is described as approachable and dependable. His mechanical expertise and willingness to step in wherever needed make him a steady influence in the shop.

The most recent addition, Chris Tapaile, brings a background in research and development, including work on presidential limousines and the first Rivian electric vehicle. His knowledge of electrical systems has been invaluable, and he readily shares it with colleagues.

Two apprentices, Garrett Baker and Brendan Nester, represent the next generation of technicians. Garrett, in his second year, is advancing quickly, while 17-year-old Brendan has already earned four ASE certifications while completing his high school co-op program.

“There isn’t one superstar here,” Bill said. “There are many superstars, and together they make one strong team.”

Griffin’s Neighborhood Auto Clinic also offers tire sales, oil changes, battery replacements, suspension tune-ups, transmission repairs, engine rebuilds, fabrication, performance-driven repairs, upgrades and more.
