STAFF FAVORITE — SEPTEMBER 2013:
About the reporter: Terry Oparka primarily covers the city of Troy crime, schools and government as a staff writer for the Troy Times. She enjoys keeping residents informed about the issues and writing human interest stories.
About the story: Bob Ortlieb, who works in media relations for Beaumont Hospital, Troy, told her about a little guy's speedy arrival in an SUV in the hospital parking lot before dawn before his mother could make it inside the hospital. A cardiac care nurse with no experience in delivering babies happened to be outside the hospital and assisted with the delivery. Terry was happy and honored to talk with the nurse, Colleen Joseph, and Anna Wanagat, baby Joshua's mother. She was amazed at how both women happened to be in the same place at the same time, with such a happy outcome and said this story just about wrote itself. And baby Joshua and his mother are both doing great.
