Titans run to state finals

The Sterling Heights Stevenson girls cross country team bested 16 other teams and qualified for the D-1 finals for the 30th time in the last 32 years, winning its D-1 regional.
The Titans, under longtime coach Kevin Hanson, tallied 98 points to best Lake Orion, which finished with 101 points. Utica Eisenhower rounded out the top three with 108 points.
The regional took place Oct. 26 at Anchor Bay High School.
The 2013 D-1 state finals took place after press time at Michigan International Speedway. Check next week’s paper for the full wrap-up on how the Titans performed at the state finals.
Earlier this season, Stevenson won the 2013 Macomb County Invitational, which took place Oct. 12.
At that same D-1 regional, Utica Ford II took 13th place, tallying 351 points. Sterling Heights High’s girls finished 17th with 459 points.
On the boys’ side, the Stallions (324 points), Titans (337) and Falcons (453) finished 10th, 12th and 16th, respectively. Oxford won the D-1 boys regional at Anchor Bay with 90 points.
Sterling Heights Parkway Christian junior Taylor Siegle finished sixth in a D-4 girls race that took place Oct. 26 at Anchor Bay with a time of 22:19 to qualify for the D-4 state finals.
