CLAWSON — Madison Heights Lamphere softball won its third district title in four years May 30 in Clawson.
The Rams beat Hazel Park High 11-4 in the title game.
“We were real aggressive on the bases, and I think that made the difference,” Lamphere coach Don Mullen said.
Lamphere used a five-run third inning to take an 8-2 lead and control of the game. The Rams scored four unearned runs in the frame.
“We gave them too many outs, but they are a good team and hit the ball well,” Hazel Park coach Lisa McClellan said.
Lamphere’s Felicia Vacante gets credit for the win. She finished with seven strikeouts, four of them coming in the final two innings.
“I knew we were so close to winning, I had to focus and pitch where it needed to go to get the outs,” she said.
The Rams go to 17-12 overall and head to Richmond High for a regional semifinal at 10 a.m. June 7.
Hazel Park finishes the season 12-11 overall after starting the year 0-6.
