WARREN — The 30th season of the Warren-based Michigan Senior Softball League is set to begin May 5, and interested players still have time to sign up.

The league’s annual spring meeting is set for 10 a.m. April 22 at the Warren Community Center, 5460 Arden Ave., where players will register for the league. The cost to play is $70 and includes participation in 30 regular-season games and at least one playoff game. The fee also covers two tickets to the league’s annual postseason banquet.

The regular season (the league began in 1987) begins May 12, with the first game set for 10 a.m. at Halmich Park in Warren. A former Detroit Tiger will throw out a ceremonial first pitch to signify the start of the season.

Last season, 83 players made up six teams. Players must be 68 or older, and there is no residency requirement.
