Local volleyball teams getting set for district play

The local volleyball teams are gearing up for the start of the 2013 Michigan High School Athletic Association district playoffs, which runs Nov. 4-9.
Sterling Heights Stevenson and Utica Ford II will be a part of the same Class A district, hosted by Ford. Stevenson takes on Romeo in a Class A quarterfinal set for 7 p.m. Nov. 4. The winner will take on Utica High at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at Ford. The host Falcons received a bye through the district quarters and will take on Utica Eisenhower at 5 p.m. Nov. 6. The district final is slated for 7 p.m. Nov. 7.
Sterling Heights High will play the winner of a Clinton Township Chippewa Valley match in a Class A semifinal set for 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at St. Clair Shores Lake Shore. The final of the Lake Shore district is set for 6 p.m. Nov. 7 at Lake Shore.
Sterling Heights Parkway Christian will face off against Marine City Cardinal Mooney in a Class D semi set for 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at Cardinal Mooney. That district final is slated for 6 p.m. Nov. 8 at Cardinal Mooney.
Warren Cousino will face either Warren Regina or Warren Woods Tower in a Class A district semi set for 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at Tower. The Patriots received a bye through the quarterfinals. The district final in the Tower grouping is set for 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at Tower.

Beverly Hills Detroit Country Day
Thanks to two early scores, some lock-down defense, and a touchdown with just 5:25 remaining in regulation, the Beverly Hills Detroit Country Day football team picked up a 20-13 victory against Milan High in a Division 4 regional final on Nov. 14 and earned this week’s Team of the Week honor. Country Day, which had outscored its opponents 78-7 in the district round, advanced to the state semifinals for the second year in a row. The Yellowjackets (11-1) face Flint Powers Catholic (10-2) at 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at West Bloomfield High.
