GROSSE POINTE — On the final day of the hockey season, teams from the Grosse Pointes were united in a dynamic of opportunities never seen before and likely never duplicated again.

During the season, the awards were geared toward the team as a whole.
Now, roughly a month after claiming the Macomb Area Conference Red Division title, the individual accolades are rolling in for the Macomb Dakota hockey 
When he returned for his senior season, Mackenzie MacEachern vowed that anything less than a state title would be deemed a failure for himself and for his Birmingham Brother Rice hockey team.

This was the fork in the road. It was either a chance to unite and rebound or let a heartbreaking defeat kick start the unraveling of a season.
This was a Senior Night loss to an archrival, an anticlimactic end to a solid 
PLYMOUTH — As the waning hours of March 9 faded into the history books, Scott Lock stood outside his Grosse Pointe North hockey team’s locker room smiling, fielding questions about a 6-3 victory against East 
ST. CLAIR SHORES — Their destination had been halted one game shy.
And instantly, the new one took shape.
Each guy headed in that direction, a straight line to the hundreds of family, friends and fans packed into the 
PLYMOUTH — For the better part of two weeks now, the Grosse Pointe North hockey team had done its best to defy every odd out there, transforming a sub-.500 regular season into a drive to the Division 1 state 
PLYMOUTH — Two weeks ago, as the Grosse Pointe North hockey team prepared to embark on its playoff journey, the squad was below the .500 mark and had lost two of its final three regular season games.
Saturday, the 
PLYMOUTH — Had the pass come cleanly, who knows what would have transpired next.
But, as Frank Welsher came flying into the offensive zone, the puck jumped up on him, bouncing off his stomach and leg before hitting the 
ST. CLAIR SHORES — Since losing in last season’s Division 1 final, the lone objective for the Orchard Lake St. Mary’s hockey team has centered on returning to Compuware and finishing a mission that ended one 
NOVI — Lou Schmidt Jr. believes his team can play better.
If that’s the case, the remaining teams in the Division 2 hockey playoffs need to be on notice.
