A force all season long, the St. Clair Shores Unified hockey team remained in contention for a Macomb Area Conference Red Division title until the final week of the regular season.
And though the Lakers’ 6-1-3 final record in the MAC Red left them two points from first place, they were well-represented on the MAC’s All-Conference roster, which was released last week.
Sophomore forwards Justin Misiak and Tommy Guzzardo proved youth wasn’t a factor and claimed the All-MAC honors.
“They were the go-to guys all year for us,” coach Russ DiCristofaro said of the pair. “They were so consistent. It was awesome to see them play as well as they did as sophomores.”
Guzzardo led the team in scoring with 19 goals and 25 assists. In 10 league games, he scored six goals and finished with 22 points.
“He’s such a smooth player,” DiCristofaro said. “He’s a very smart player, and has such an accurate shot.”
Misiak wrapped up his sophomore year with 20 goals and 22 assists, including a team-best 23 points (12 goals, 11 assists) in league play.
“He’s a kid with such quick feet,” DiCristofaro added. “He sees the ice so well.”
The Lakers finished the season 14-7-4 overall.
