Madison Heights Bishop Foley’s boys basketball season came to a close following a 68-35 loss to Detroit Consortium in a Class C regional final March 13 on the Ventures’ home court.
After his team’s exit from the postseason, Foley coach Marc West looked back at the Ventures’ season with appreciation.
“When you end a season, end a career for these seniors, you’re going to remember the good things,” he said. “You’re going to remember the Catholic League championship, the district championship, the great moment we had here Monday night (a 63-61 victory against Detroit Loyola March 11), advancing on to the regional final. It was a special season for them.”
When West reflected on Foley’s season as a whole, he recalled a group of players who, coming into it, didn’t have a lot of experience playing together, and the progress he saw as time went on.
“We took our lumps, learning how to play together,” he said. “It came together here at the end of the year, and that’s special. When you work hard at the beginning, take your lumps, you learn your lessons and it pays off at the end. That’s when it gets kind of special.”
When West considered the team he will have to work with next season, he expressed optimism that the Ventures could be in for another successful campaign.
“If you look at our roster, we got guys coming back that played a whole lot of minutes in a whole lot of big games,” he said. “I think they’re going have a lot of fun. The future’s definitely bright.”
The Ventures’ district title came via a 52-46 victory against Oakland Christian March 8 at Royal Oak Shrine.
