Two power-play goals and one shorthanded goal lifted Cranbrook to a 4-1 victory against University Liggett on Tuesday night in a crucial Metro League contest.
Leah Israel scored twice, with her second goal coming on a shorthanded effort as she skated around a Liggett defender was able to get a backhanded shot into the back of the net.
Courtney Wright and Frankie White-Levin also scored for Cranbrook, as Tara Chelios tallied three assists for the Cranes.
"We kind of moved our lines around, getting ready for the playoffs trying to find some combinations that work, but that one with 19 (Israel), 5 (Lucy Dembeck) and 16 (Syd Pollak), they really moved the puck well," Liggett coach Terry Brooks said.
Liggett's Danielle Lorant scored a first-period goal that was assisted by Hannah Hodges and Grace Scarfone.
Cranbrook outshot Liggett 31-26.
Liggett moved to 12-3 in Metro League play while Cranbrook improved to 14-1-1. Cranbrook now holds a four-point advantage over second-place Ann Arbor Pioneer in the Metro League; Liggett now trails the Cranes by five points in the league standings.
In their next games, Cranbrook will take on Warren Regina on Feb. 20 while Liggett will host Regina on Feb. 22.
