Posted August 21, 2013
The Young Champions Mount Clemens Elite Competitive Cheer Team won a Division 5 Medium Grand Championship during a Young Champions National cheerleading competition held July 27 in Virginia Beach, Va.
This was the squad’s second trip to the national competition. Mount Clemens finished fourth at the national meet in 2012, according to coach Shelley Mitchell.
“These girls worked so hard all year hoping to get a bid to nationals,” Mitchell said. “Once they received their bid, they worked extra hard to bring everything they had to the competition floor.”
The Mount Clemens team competed against squads from states such Arizona, Ohio and North Carolina.
Mitchell said her team gave a nearly flawless performance. She said she is beyond excited for the girls.
“This year, they wanted to step up (their performance), and they did,” Mitchell said. “When they were announced as 2013 national champions, there was a ton of screaming, crying, jumping up and down, and just pure excitement.”
