Big Reds, Cougars, Mustangs all advance in soccer playoffs

Crusaders out in district quarters

Clinton Township Chippewa Valley, Macomb Dakota and Macomb Lutheran North were all victorious in their 2013 Michigan High School Athletic Association boys soccer state playoff district quarterfinals Oct. 14.

Chippewa Valley (7-6-3) knocked off Macomb L’Anse Creuse North (7-10-1) 1-0 in a Division 1 game played at L’Anse Creuse North. The Big Reds advanced to square off with Dakota (15-1-2) in a semifinal game after the Cougars bested Anchor Bay (3-16-0) 2-1 at Anchor Bay.

The matchup between Chippewa Valley and Dakota took place after press time. The winner of that battle will meet either Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse (10-6-2) or Port Huron Northern (5-9-4) in a district final set for 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at L’Anse Creuse North.

Lutheran North ousted Marine City (9-4-2) 3-0 in a D-3 game played at Marine City. The Mustangs (9-6-4) advanced to take on Capac in a match that took place after press time. The winner of that bout moves on to face Almont, Richmond or Imlay City in a district final set for 4 p.m. Oct. 18 at Imlay City.

Beverly Hills Detroit Country Day

Thanks to two early scores, some lock-down defense, and a touchdown with just 5:25 remaining in regulation, the Beverly Hills Detroit Country Day football team picked up a 20-13 victory against Milan High in a Division 4 regional final on Nov. 14 and earned this week’s Team of the Week honor. Country Day, which had outscored its opponents 78-7 in the district round, advanced to the state semifinals for the second year in a row. The Yellowjackets (11-1) face Flint Powers Catholic (10-2) at 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at West Bloomfield High.
