The Athens-Avondale Unified gymnastics squad claimed high honors at the March 11-12 MHSAA state finals, finishing in third place with 146.475 points.
The Unified team scored third on vault (36.400), second on the uneven parallel bars (36.600), third on balance beam (36.525) and second on floor exercise (36.950).
In addition to a top performance in the team event, the Unified squad saw several gymnasts vault to individual All-State honors. Division 1 and Division 2 medals were awarded to the first- though 10th-place finishers in each event for individual awards.
In D-1, Avondale’s Ashley Moskal finished fifth on vault (9.350), second on the uneven parallel bars (9.375), sixth on balance beam (9.375), third on floor exercise (9.600) and third all-around (37.700).
In D-2, Avondale’s Sereen El-Awad finished third on bars with 9.150 points and seventh on all-around (39.075). Athens’ Jaclynn Stewart finished fourth on beam (9.225), eighth on floor (9.275) and sixth all-around (36.075).
