Anchor Bay wins 30th Evans-Gill Memorial Golf Invitational
Tars stop Utica Eisenhower's win streak at 2

RAY TOWNSHIP — The Anchor Bay boys golf team won the 30th annual Evans-Gill Memorial Golf Tournament by besting two-time defending champion Utica Eisenhower by six strokes. The tourney was held at Pine Valley in Ray Township April 22.
Anchor Bay notched a 326, while Eisenhower tallied a 332. Eisenhower won the tournament in 2012 and 2013.
Warren De La Salle (337) finished 11 shots off the lead and in third place. Utica Ford and Macomb Dakota, which both finished with scores of 340, ended 14 shots off the pace and tied for fourth place.
The tournament takes place each year to honor two former high school golf coaches — Chuck Evans of Mount Clemens High and Roger Gill of Macomb L’Anse Creuse North. Seventeen Macomb County prep teams played in the tourney. Outside of the top five teams, the field also include, Clinton Township Chippewa Valley, East Detroit High, St. Clair Shores Lakeview, Harrison Township L'Anse Creuse, Macomb L'Anse Creuse North, Macomb Lutheran North, Port Huron Northern, Richmond, Sterling Heights Stevenson, Utica High, Warren Mott and Warren Woods Tower.
Eisenhower's Conner Jones tallied a 76 to record the low round for the second straight year.
The 2014 Macomb County Invitational is set for 9 a.m. April 28 at the Timberwoof Golf Club in Ray Township.
