OAA coaches pick top volleyball players from fall season

OAKLAND COUNTY — In terms of the 2017 volleyball season for teams in the Oakland Activities Association, well, it was as close as it could get.

All three divisions weren’t settled until the final matches were held, and in all three, the first-place team and the third-place team were separated by two games or less.

So now, with the winter sports season in full swing, coaches in the OAA honored the girls who made 2017 so special.

Here’s a quick look at how each team finished and what girls took home All-Association honors.


Red Division
Clarkston High and Rochester Hills Stoney Creek shared the Red Division title with 6-1 records, followed closely by Lake Orion High (5-2), Troy High (3-4), Birmingham Seaholm (3-4), Bloomfield Hills High (3-4), Troy Athens (1-6) and Oxford High (0-7).

All-Association honors went to Abbey Malinowski, Jen Chupinsky, Kayla Luchenbach and Claire Nowicki, Clarkston; Molly Asmus, Samantha Jones, Nina Bilotto and Julia Luttig, Stoney Creek; Illyria Kalaj, Danielle Sargent and Wren Macaulay, Lake Orion; Olivia Smith and Alexa Rousseau, Bloomfield Hills; Jess Robinson and Kelsey Mueller, Troy; Nikki Carey and Molly Ligon, Seaholm; Elizabeth Larochelle, Athens; and Maddy Weiss, Oxford.


White Division
Rochester Adams won the White, going 7-0 on the year. The Highlanders were followed by West Bloomfield High (5-2), Farmington Hills Harrison (5-2), Rochester High (4-3), Birmingham Groves (3-4), North Farmington (2-5), Auburn Hills Avondale (2-5) and Berkley High (0-7).

All-Association honors went to Paige Hedlund, Ashley Rill, Liv Gongos and Bailey Pease, Adams; Lauren King, Grace Allread and Jenna Rogind, West Bloomfield; Jenna Khoury, Cassidy Schuetz and Kristen Hankins, Harrison; Ryan Allor and Sydney Jones, Rochester; Anne Franklin and Ellie Ruprich, Groves; Tessa Moran, North Farmington; Jenna Perslern, Avondale; and Natalia Tovarez, Berkley.


Blue Division
The Blue also came down to the wire, with Farmington High (6-0) sneaking past Southfield A&T (5-1) for the crown. Royal Oak High (4-2), Hazel Park High (3-3), Ferndale High (2-4), Pontiac High (1-5) and Oak Park High (0-6) rounded out the group.

All-Association accolades went to Courtney Szymkowski, Sydney Eggleton, Lauren Munson and Jenny Cameron, Farmington; Krista Blakeley, Deanna Miree and Jasmine Smith, Southfield A&T; Sierra Randle and Anna Hasley, Royal Oak; Trinity Benton and Haley Beverlin, Hazel Park; Autumn Fredericks, Ferndale; Arianna Louris, Pontiac; and Akeala Smith, Oak Park.
