Local grapplers battle in district action

Local wrestling squads battled in team and individual districts.
In the team portion, Rochester High won a title, beating Utica Eisenhower 39-29 Feb. 5 in a Division 1 district at Stoney Creek.
In the semifinals, Rochester beat the hosts, and Eisenhower beat Rochester Adams.
Next, the Falcons take on Oxford High Feb. 12 at home in regionals.
Lake Orion High fell in its D-1 district to Oxford High 71-12 in the final Feb. 5 at Romeo High. In its semi, Lake Orion beat the host squad 38-34.
In D-2, Auburn Hills Avondale lost in its final to Pontiac High 48-23 Feb. 6 at Pontiac Notre Dame Prep.
The Yellow Jackets beat the host 49-24 in their semifinal.
In D-4, Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest lost to Memphis High 72-9 in a final Feb. 6 after receiving a first-round bye.
Individually, Rochester qualified three wrestlers to regionals, with Shane Shadaia at 171, Shwan Shadaia at 189 and Cameron Daniels at 285.
Stoney Creek also qualified three, with Kyle Noonan at 125, Aidan Pierobon at 130 and Andrew Price at 160.
Rochester Adams led all local teams with four regional qualifiers. Dylan Howcroft advanced at 112 pounds; Jake Anderson moves on at 125; Sam Addy is a regional qualifier at 145; and Jack Addy moves on at 152 pounds
Lake Orion’s Devon Fulcher also earned a spot in regionals.
Local wrestlers will be in regional action Feb. 15 at Oxford High.
In D-4, Lutheran Northwest is sending Jake Klausmeier at 189 pounds, Trevor Schultz (215) and Brandon Schrupp (285) to regionals Feb. 15 in Hudson.
