CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Three Detroit men are in FBI custody after being associated with multiple hold ups in Clinton Township.
The suspects, whose names were not released due to an ongoing FBI investigation, are all allegedly involved with robberies that took place at separate locations.
Clinton Township Police Captain Richard Maierle said that one of the suspects got cash and lottery tickets on Nov. 18 from the Smokers Shop, located at 20856 Hall Road. On Nov. 6, another of the suspects, armed with a large silver handgun, took a “brick” of lottery tickets, a bottle of Hennessy and three packs of Newport cigarettes from Harbor Market, located at 21300 Hall Road.
Two of the suspects were also charged with the Dec. 2 robbery of Chase Bank on Hall Road near Heidenreich, across the street from The Harbours Apartments, an apartment complex off Hall and Heidenreich roads.
Maierle credited detectives Joe Burns and Dan Quinn for following leads and tracking down the suspects.
“During the holdup, lottery tickets were stolen,” Maierle explained. “Joe Burns goes to Detroit and gets a picture of a guy cashing lotto tickets, distinctly wearing a (Detroit) Tigers hoodie. Old style, real distinctive.
“It’s the same male. (Burns) stops him and talks to him, gets a picture of the guy, and it’s the same guy. We grabbed him and did a lineup, and it was the same guy.”
Maierle said that the man confessed to the crimes and was placed in Macomb County Jail. The FBI told the Clinton Township police that federal charges are forthcoming.
“Detective Burns did a great job,” Maierle said.
