DETROIT — The Warren Mott football team will look to slay a giant when it travels to Detroit to take on Cass Tech in a 2013 Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 district final set for 1 p.m. Nov. 9 at Cass Tech.
Both teams enter the contest at 10-0. The Marauders, champions of the Macomb Area Conference White Division, knocked off Dearborn Fordson 14-0 in a predistrict to advance to the final. Cass Tech shut out Grosse Pointe South 35-0 in its predistrict.
The teams have met once prior in the postseason. The Technicians eeked out a 27-24 win over Mott in a 2008 predistrict.
Mott enters the matchup tallying 48.6 points per game and allowing 14 points per contest. The Marauders have recorded two shutouts and held four other opponents to less than nine points.
The Technicians are notching 40 points per game while allowing only 4.6 points per contest. Cass Tech has recorded five shutouts and limited three other opponents to six points.
Mott is in the state playoffs for the seventh time in eight years. The Marauders have appeared in three district finals in that span — 2009, 2011 and 2013. Mott's first win over a playoff team this season came against Fordson in the predistrict round.
This is Cass Tech's sixth straight playoff appearance and seventh in eight years. The Technicians have won two straight MHSAA D-1 state champions and also reached the D-1 state semifinals in 2010. This season, Cass Tech has beaten seven teams that qualified for the state playoffs, going 7-0 in those matchups.
