GROSSE POINTE — The chances of a playoff berth for Grosse Pointe South appeared bleak after the Blue Devils started their season 1-3. After winning five consecutive games, South has clinched a spot in the postseason and won a share of the MAC Blue Division title.
In a predistrict game this upcoming weekend, South will take on Detroit Cass Tech (9-0), the two-time defending state champions in Division 1. Cass Tech has been ranked the top team in the state throughout the season by several publications.
Cass Tech defeated South 37-3 in a predistrict contest last season.
The winner between South and Cass Tech will play Dearborn Fordson and Warren Mott.
Grosse Pointe North will be playing in the Division 2 state tournament starting with Detroit East English Village Prep (6-3). East English is led by a defense that gave up 59 points all season. East English went 4-1 in the Detroit PSL East Division with a 4-1 record, with its lone loss coming to Detroit King by a score of 6-0.
The winner between North and East English will face the winner of King and Detroit Cody.
