FRASER — Grosse Pointe North soccer lost in a district semifinal Oct. 16 to Warren Cousino. After defeating Cousino by a combined score of 9-2 in two games in the regular season, North lost 4-1 to the Patriots.
In earlier district play, the Norsemen defeated Roseville 7-0 in a district opener.
North had five seniors — Vince Bruno, Joseph Garvin, John Kusch, Carter Bock and Giancarlo Collette — on the roster. Bruno, Garvin and Kusch served as captains this year.
“We improved greatly from last season. We have great leaders. We won a lot of big games for this programs but lost games that we should’ve won,” North coach Skipper Mukhtar said. “We grew from those situations every single day. We got better every single day and we had a great season overall, and we’re getting better every season.”
Grosse Pointe South fell in its district opener to Warren De La Salle 1-0. The Blue Devils finished the year with a 7-8-3 record overall while going 7-2-3 in MAC White play.
South will be graduating 11 seniors from this year’s team. They are Murray Sales, Anthony Carrier, Eric Addy, Daniel Bukacel, Noah Erickson, Chaz Bilderbeck, John Kanan, Jackson Yezbeck, Andrew Cornwall, Wade Penman and Stuart Daudlin. Sales and Cornwall were captains.
University Liggett beat Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest 3-2 in the district final Oct. 19. Liggett took on Allen Park Inter-City Baptist Oct. 22 in regional semifinal. The winner of that game plays at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at Bishop Foley.
Liggett defeated Auburn Hills Oakland Christian 1-0 in the district opener before beating Clarkston Everest 5-0 to advance to the final.
