Wayne State University football player selected as Defensive Player of the Week

DETROIT — According to a report from Wayne State University, senior linebacker Ed Viverette was named as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 16.
His selection came after recording nine tackles and 3.5 sacks in the Warriors' (1-1) 34-22 victory against Ashland University Sept. 14.
Viverette's other accomblisments included a fumble recovery that resulted in a 42-yard score, contributing to two quarterback hurries and forcing a fumble, helping to give the Warriors their first victory against Ahland since 2009.
Viverette is a three-year starter and a 2013 captain, and through the first two games, leads Wayne State with 22 tackles, 3.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.
This is Viverette's first time being named as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Viverette attended Birmingham Brother Rice High School and is a Southfield resident.
Wayne State is next scheduled to be in action at 1 p.m. Sept. 21 in a road game against Lake Erie.
