Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores baseball team advances to Little League World Series regional final
Walk-off home run the difference

INDIANAPOLIS — Tommy Maxey's walk-off home run in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted the Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores little league baseball team to a 5-4 win over Hamilton, Ohio, in a Great Lakes Regional Final in the 2013 Little League Baseball World Series.
The game took place Aug. 8 in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Woods-Shores squad came up to bat in a two-run hole in the bottom half of the sixth inning. John Lizza and Ryan Shanley each reached on singles to start the rally. Maxey launched a three-run shot to give the Woods-Shores team a walk-off victory.
The Woods-Shores team will face either Illinois or Wisconsin in a regional final set for 1 p.m. Aug. 10. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN. The winner of the regional final advances to the 2013 Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, Penn.
Jimmy Mazzola, who pitched 1.1 innings of relief, picked up the win for the Woods-Shores team. Mazzola and starter Antonio Moceri combined to throw 119 pitches.
Hamilton reliever Payton Pennington took the loss.
The Woods-Shores team entered the last inning with just two hits. All three Woods-Shores batters recorded hits in the final stanza.
Hamilton took a 4-2 lead in the top of the sixth when it sent nine batters to the plate.
Lizza started the game's scoring with a solo home run in the bottom of the second to give the Woods-Shores squad a 1-0 advantage.
Hamilton plated one run in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-1 advantage. Two Hamilton errors allowed the Woods-Shores team to tie the game at two in the bottom of the fifth.
