The Roseville and East Detroit High girls soccer teams both saw their seasons end in 2013 Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 district quarterfinals.
The Panthers fell 8-1 to St. Clair Shores Lakeview in a D-1 district quarter played May 28 at Lakeview. Roseville finishes the season at 5-10-3, 1-8-3 in the Macomb Area Conference Gold Division.
“I’m proud of what the team accomplished. They definitely set out with a mindset to improve on last season,” said Roseville coach Richard Meyer, who is in his second season with the team.
“As a team, we agree that we did that. We have the same amount of wins (five) and ties (three) that we did the past two years combined . . . and we held our own in the MAC Gold.”
Meyer said he believes the Panthers improved on their skill this year, including footwork and moving the ball up the field with give-and-go passes.
“I remember sitting down with the girls two years ago when I started and talking about how we wanted the game to work — where they should be and how to help make each other better by supporting on defense and making runs to the open space,” Meyer said. “It was definitely cool to see that vision become a reality with this team this year.”
The Shamrocks lost a 6-3 decision to Warren Mott in a D-1 district quarterfinal played May 28 at East Detroit. The Shamrocks end the season at 3-11-3, 3-6-3 in the MAC Silver.
Local baseball, softball and boys golf teams were still alive in their various district tournaments at press time.
