Dakota girls take Macomb County track title
Stevenson boys finish second

The 2013 Macomb County Track and Field Championships took place May 23 at Warren Mott. The field events were rained-out. WARREN — The Macomb Dakota girls track team bested 16 other squads to win the 2013 Macomb County Track and Field Championships, while Romeo High’s boys team ran away from the competition to win the boys title.
Track events took place May 23 at Warren Mott. Field events had been rescheduled for May 28, but inclement weather caused them to be canceled. The team titles were given based on finishes in the May 23 track events.
The Cougars’ girls team tallied 74 points during the competition, just enough to edge Sterling Heights Stevenson, which scored 67. Clinton Township Chippewa Valley (48 points), Warren Regina (42) and Macomb Lutheran North (26) round out the top five in the girls standings.
Romeo tallied 84 points to take the boys title, with Stevenson’s boys team scoring 45 points to finish second. Macomb Dakota (37), Mount Clemens (30) and Warren De La Salle Collegiate (28) complete the top five on the boys side.
Boys individual results
Stevenson senior Brandon Kalp took the title in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.13 seconds. Dakota junior Ken Campbell (11.29) finished second.
Romeo junior Mitch Pacitti (22.77) won the 200; Stevenson junior Sultan Faronbi (23.37) was second.
Warren De La Salle junior Louis Zingas finished first in the 400 with a time of 51.72. Warren Woods Tower sophomore Donte Hedgespeth (51.99) placed second.
Romeo sophomore Jacob Domagalski was the champion in the 800 after posting 2 minutes, 1.50 seconds. De la Salle junior Matt Molinaro (2:03.32) finished second.
Domagalski (4:29.39) also won the 1600. He was followed by teammate Andrew Nelson (4:34.38), a senior.
Romeo runners dominated the 3200, with junior Alec Toreki (9:44.8) and senior Trevor Sharnas (9:50.40) finishing first and second, respectively.
Warren Michigan Collegiate senior Teo Redding won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.45. Utica High senior Addison Sawyer (15.66) placed second.
Mount Clemens senior Eric Rice won the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.72. Sterling Heights High senior Wallace Joshua (42.75) finished second.
The Stevenson 4x100 relay team won that race with a time of 44.69; Dakota placed second with a time of 45.09.
The Dakota 4x200 relay team was victorious after crossing the finish line in 1:33.35. De La Salle finished second with a time of 1:34.61.
St. Clair Shores Lake Shore (3:34.77) and Romeo (3:36.14) finished first and second, respectively, in the 4x400.
Anchor Bay won the 4x800 in 8:21.12; Romeo followed with a time of 8:21.56.
Girls individual results
Stevenson junior Derriana Kelley (12.84) won the 100; Utica High sophomore Jackie Berg, who clocked in at 13.04, was second.
Dakota junior Jillian Flint finished first in the 200 after posting a time of 26.29. Chippewa Valley senior Caitlin Pertler (27.44) finished second.
Dakota senior Lauren Burnett (58.02) won the 400; Stevenson junior Gabriella Oveson, who finished with a time of 1:01.19, was next to cross the finish line.
Warren Regina junior Cassie Bloch finished first in the 800 in 2:21.10. Stevenson freshman Allison Shannon (2:23.21) finished second.
Armada senior Rachel Durbin (5:15.12) won the 1600; Chippewa Valley junior Rachel Walny (5:19.19) finished second.
Walny won the 3200 after posting a time of 11:19.54, while Stevenson senior Jessica Gaines finished second with a time of 11:33.12.
St. Clair Shores Lakeview senior Sarah Moen won the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.99. Romeo senior Natalie Peterson finished second with a time of 15.64. Moen (46.52) and Peterson (48.61) also finished first and second, respectively, in the 300 hurdles.
The Regina 4x100 relay team won that race with a time of 53.31. Lutheran North’s team placed second with a time of 53.71.
The Dakota 4x200 relay team won that race with a time of 1:47.85. Stevenson’s team placed second with a time of 1:51.22. Dakota (9:55.27) and Stevenson (10:04.53) also finished 1-2 in the 4x800.
Stevenson’s 4x400 relay team came away victorious after posting 4:12.68. Regina finished second in the race with a time of 4:16.67.
