Local teams set to hit the diamond

The 2013 Michigan High School Athletic Association baseball and softball seasons kicked off March 20.
Local teams were scheduled to begin their 2013 campaigns shortly after that.
Here is a snapshot on each baseball and softball team for the local schools going into the 2013 season. Cold and rain in the early part of season will cause cancelations, so its best to check with the host school for last-minute changes to the schedule.
Sterling Heights Stevenson
The Stevenson baseball team captured its third straight Macomb Area Conference Red Division title in 2012. The Titans went 8-2 in league play, 21-11 overall.
Stevenson, which hadn’t played a game at press time, fell to rival Utica Ford II 8-4 in a 2012 MHSAA Division 1 district title game.
The Titans next hit the field for a matchup with Warren De La Salle, set for 4 p.m. April 8 at Stevenson.
Stevenson’s softball team also won a MAC Red title in 2012, sharing the league crown with Romeo.
The Titans’ softball team finished 10-2 in league played, 26-10 overall. The Stevenson softball team, which hadn’t played at press time, also won MHSAA Division 1 district and regional titles before falling to White Lake Hartland in the state quarterfinals.
The Titans’ softball team hits the field for a matchup with Canton set for 4:15 p.m. April 9.
Sterling Heights High
The Sterling Heights High baseball team went 6-4 and placed third in the MAC Silver.
The Stallions had an overall mark of 14-17 and fell to Utica Ford II in a MHSAA Division 1 district semifinal.
Sterling Heights next hits the diamond for a tilt with Port Huron Northern, set for 2:!5 p.m. April 2 at Kyte Monroe Field A in St. Clair Shores.
The Stallions’ softball team went 10-13 in 2012, including a 3-9 mark in MAC Gold play wrapped up last season with a loss in the MHSAA Division 1 district semis to Clinton Township Chippewa Valley.
The Stallions’ next game is against Clinton Township Clintondale, set for 4:30 p.m. March 27 at Clintondale.
Utica Ford II
The Utica Ford II baseball team is coming off a season that saw it capture a MHSAA Division 1 district title.
Ford II bested rival Stevenson 8-4 to capture the district title. The win put the Falcons at 15-14. Ford II was two games under .500 going into the playoffs.
Ford II, which hadn’t played at press time, finished the year 15-15, 5-5 in the MAC White, after falling to Warren De La Salle in a regional semifinal. The Falcons next hit the field for a matchup against Clinton Township Chippewa Valley, set for 10 a.m. April 6 at Ford II.
The Ford II softball team went 9-3 to win the MAC White. The Falcons finished 21-10 overall.

Sterling Heights Parkway Christian
The Sterling Heights Parkway Christian baseball team went 12-18 in 2012, including a 5-9 mark in the Michigan Independent Athletic Conference Red Division.
The Eagles fell 15-0 to Grosse Pointe University Liggett June 2 in a 2012 MHSAA Division 4 district final.
Parkway Christian next hits the field for a matchup with Clinton Township Clintondale, set for 4:30 p.m. March 27 at Parkway Christian.
The Eagles’ softball team went 7-25 in 2012.
Parkway Christian’s softball team fell 8-1 to Marine City Cardinal Mooney June 2 in a 2012 MHSAA Division 4 district semi.
The Eagles’ softball team plays its next game at 4:30 p.m. March 28 against Warren Fitzgerald. The game is scheduled for Chatterton Middle School in Warren.
