Stevenson, Sterling Heights boys hoops advance to district final
Parkway Christian, Utica Ford II bow out of postseason

Both the Sterling Heights High and Stevenson boys basketball teams battled their way to 2013 Michigan High School Athletic Association Class A district final matchups, which were played after press time.
The Stallions squared off with Clinton Township Chippewa Valley March 8 at Chippewa Valley, while the Titans met Rochester High March 8 at Stevenson.
In advancing to the final, Sterling Heights (10-12 at press time) bested Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse 37-33 March 4 in a district quarterfinal, then went on to beat Roseville 45-34 March 6 in a district semifinal. Both games were played at Chippewa Valley.
In two playoff wins, the Stallions allowed 33.5 points per contest. That number is nearly 18 points fewer than Sterling Heights’ regular-season average of 51.3.
Stevenson won a tight 50-47 matchup with Utica Eisenhower March 6 at Stevenson to advance to the district final. The Titans (15-6 at press time) received a bye through the district quarters.
Stevenson went 9-3 in placing second in the Macomb Area Conference White Division. Sterling Heights 3-9 mark put them fifth in the MAC Gold.
Utica Ford II saw its season come to a close in a 61-51 loss to Rochester High in a Class A district quarterfinal played March 4 at Stevenson.
The Falcons end their season at 8-13. Ford II finished 6-6 in MAC White play — good for a tie for third place with Grosse Pointe North.
Sterling Heights Parkway Christian fell 72-49 to Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes in a Class D district quarter played March 4 at Bloomfield Hills Roeper.
The Eagles conclude the season at 2-18, 0-14 in the Michigan Independent Athletic Conference Blue Division.
