Fraser boys swim wins dual-meet title

Fraser swim coach Bob Ogilvy talks to members of his team during a recent practice. The Ramblers have met most of the goals they set after winning dual- and division-meet championships.
According to coach Bob Ogilvy, Fraser’s swim team had three goals this season — win a Macomb Area Conference White Division dual-meet title, go undefeated and capture a division-meet championship.
While Fraser finished just shy of going undefeated (7-1 overall, 5-0 MAC White), it was able to win both dual- and division-meet titles, which, according to Ogilvy, is a first since 1990.
“The boys swam really well,” Ogilvy said of the division-meet championship, which took place Feb. 23. “The whole team swam really well. It was a good meet. It was a fun day.”
Although Fraser’s dual-meet season officially ended with a victory against Utica Ford Feb. 5, Ogilvy said it was after the Ramblers defeated MAC White runner-up L’Anse Creuse (Jan. 22) that the team knew it had secured the title.
“When we beat L’Anse Creuse in our dual meet, they were very excited,” he said. “L’Anse Creuse is our toughest rival in the division. When we beat them, the boys were ecstatic. They were jumping up and down — it was a very emotional moment. Lots of cheering. It was kind of fun to see the boys’ emotions let go like that — just celebrate.”
Aside from having the largest roster in the MAC White with 38 swimmers, Ogilvy thinks his team also had more fun than any other team in the division. He acknowledged that there might be a good reason for that.
“Winning helps,” he said. “We’re a very close group of guys. They’re real loose. The way this team approaches their meets, (it would) be hard to believe anybody’s having more fun than they are.”
