The 27th annual “Our Town” art show and sale is coming back to The Community House Oct. 11-13.
The juried multimedia art show will showcase some of the finest artists from around the state while helping to raise money for youth programs at TCH.
The event, presented in part by The DeRoy Testamentary Foundation, will present 365 pieces of artwork from 184 Michigan artists. The art will range from traditional to contemporary, and while entry to the show is free, 35 percent of the proceeds from art sales will benefit wellness, leadership and outreach programs TCH provides to at-risk youth in Pontiac and Detroit.
“After moving back to Michigan last year and being an avid art collector, I was amazed at the excellent caliber and variety of art at ‘Our Town.’ It is a great art show to buy original artwork from our very own talented Michigan artists,” Camille Jayne, president and CEO of TCH, said in an email. “I encourage anyone who has not attended to come to the show. This year, we are especially excited about collecting new art supplies for an art outreach program for at-risk youth which we plan to offer this winter.”
To add another level of excitement to the show, the artists will compete for $10,000 in prize money. Their work will be adjudicated by Jane Dini, assistant curator of American art for the Detroit Institute of Arts, who said she’s looking forward to seeing all of the pieces.
“I have a lot of respect for community-based art associations, and I just love supporting it,” said Dini. “Now that the millage has passed, we (at the DIA) feel more invested to reach out to our community in any way we can to make their art community richer. Whatever expertise we might have we would like to share.”
In addition to the main days of the show, TCH will celebrate the annual event with a preview evening 5:30-9 p.m. Oct. 10. Tickets to the Art in Vogue preview night at TCH range from $75 to $200, and include strolling hors d’oeuvres, live music and a fashion and art presentation, not to mention a chance to see and purchase artwork before the show opens to the public the following day.
For reservations to the Art in Vogue preview night, call The Community House at (248) 644-5832 or visit www.TCHserves.org. The 27th annual “Our Town” art show and sale will run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 11-13. The Community House is located at 380 S. Bates St. in downtown Birmingham.
