BIRMINGHAM BLOOMFIELD EAGLE : MARCH 19, 2010
Cranbrook takes home 15th hockey title
The tension was gripping. The intensity mounted with every passing moment. A nervous buzz echoed throughout the rink as months of practice and games, a long playoff run and more than 14 minutes of a championship final had whittled down to 30 seconds.

Heartbreake and hope
Although the Pilots were denied a shot at playing for the title following a 6-5 overtime loss, the journey this group of 14 seniors, in particular, shared is something few prep athletes get to experience.

He wasn’t being arrogant. As a matter of fact, when asked how many regional titles this was now for his program, Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood hockey coach Andy Weidenbach almost sounded a bit embarrassed by the question.

L’Anse Creuse hockey finds playoff vindication

Nothing helps make a season like winning a playoff game — unless it’s winning a playoff game against your top rival — or better yet, winning a playoff game against your top rival in overtime. The Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse hockey team experienced just that March 1 against Macomb L’Anse Creuse North, as the Lancers topped the Crusaders 4-3 in their first-round playoff matchup.

All goals for DLS hockey rest on trip to — and win in — state finals

This is it. This is what they’ve been planning on and waiting for since day one. This is the team, years in the making, constructed for this journey — to the ultimate prize. Is it a bit unfair to put so much emphasis on a state title for the Warren De La Salle hockey team? Possibly.

He understands why those reading his comments or hearing him speak may not, well, understand him. He also knows the way the season ended doesn’t look very flattering, nor does the team’s final record. Haning in there
He’s not entirely surprised at how things have gone thus far, but in all reality, he couldn’t be more proud. Proud of the way his guys have worked, and proud of the way his guys have played. And even with a record two games under .500 at press time, proud of the current state of the Royal Oak Shrine hockey program.

Fraser sees improvement in results, expectations in year two
As the Fraser High hockey team wrapped up its league season with a 6-3 loss to Port Huron High, coach Don Krussman had mixed emotions. Krussman saw his team fall to the Macomb Area Conference Blue Division champion Big Reds for the second time this year, but like the Ramblers’ first loss to Port Huron, it was a sign of how far they had come in their second season together.
