In Memory of Hoemke, Rita Patricia (Craig)

Rita Patricia (Craig) Hoemke Age 91 - Born April 13, 1922, died December 13, 2013.
The oldest child of Clifford and Edith (Bouchard) Craig, she lived most of her life in Ferndale and Royal Oak, Michigan. Loving Mother of; Edie (Barry) Saunders, Marlene Zewicky , Kevin (Katie) Hoemke, H. Craig (Stacy) Hoemke, Bill (Nancy) Hoemke and daughter-in-law Karen Hoemke. She is survived by her brother Warren (Jeanne) Craig, sister Helen Brazeau and brother-in-law Don Maylone.
She leaves 16 grandchildren; Megin (David) Turner, Amy (John) Szarafinski, Patrick (Kellie) Saunders, Jenni (Kevin) England, Sara (Bruce) Chard, Erik Hoemke, Casey Perkins, Chava Zewicky, Kris (Lauren) Hoemke, Michael (Melissa) Hoemke, Kyle (Dorothy) Hoemke, Lindsay Hoemke, Tory Hoemke, Cody Hoemke, Haley Hoemke, Kelsy Hoemke and 14 great-grandchilden. She was dearly loved by her many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded, in death by her husband Norman H. Hoemke, Jr., son Norman R. Hoemke, Gr. Grandson Cade Turner, brother Clifford Craig and sisters Elaine Harland and Barbara Maylone.
“Pat”, as everyone knew her, was the neighborhood mom to all. All hoped for an offer of her homemade cookies or her famous sugar bread. She was always a volunteer who gave of her time and talent, from PTA to Meals on Wheels, scouting to serving on the board at Barton Towers Co-op. She was a regular at sporting events starting in the 50’s with her own children to this past spring at her youngest granddaughter’s soccer. Her faith sustained her and she was a member of both St. Mary’s in Royal Oak and the Shrine of the Little Flower. As a creative writer, family and friends throughout the United States, Canada and England, were kept abreast of family news, history and current events. If you met her once and shared your birthdate, from then on you were at least guaranteed one card arriving by mail, if you were lucky….there would be a dollar or two included.
Pat Hoemke donated her remains to Wayne State Medical School. A private family celebration of her life will be held in the future.
