Justin Greason didn't see much of the floor Friday night because of early foul trouble, but he made the most of his minutes and scored the game-winning basket with .7 seconds remaining to give Utica Eisenhower a 52-50 win over Chippewa Valley.
Chippewa's DeVonne Brooks scored with 1:29 left to tie the game at 50, but Eisenhower held on for the last shot to set up Greason's game-winner.
"The way things were going, we wanted to hold for the last shot, and we did. We've run that play a couple times in the past and have scored on it. It's not how we thought we would score on it but it worked perfectly," Eisenhower coach Dave Schwesinger said.
On the play, Eisenhower's Charlie Hayes drove to the basket for a layup, but he attracted multiple defenders to leave Greason open for the offensive rebound and put back. Greason finished the game with eight points and 13 rebounds in limited minutes after he committed his fourth foul with 6:02 left in the third quarter.
Eisenhower opened the game on a 14-0 run, but Chippewa rallied to trail 28-27 at halftime. The two sides played within a five-point window from there with multiple ties, but Chippewa never took the lead.
Alek Frascone led all scorers with 15 points for Eisenhower. Dan Chmielewski added 10 points for the Eagles.
Brooks led Chippewa with 10 points while Nieko Arapaj added nine.
The loss was Chippewa's third loss by two points or less in MAC Red play this year.
Eisenhower (8-1, 4-1 MAC Red) will host L'Anse Creuse North on Feb. 4 while Chippewa (4-6, 2-3) will host Macomb Dakota on Feb. 3.
