Guttersohn

STAFF FAVORITE — JULY 2013:

CALUMET, MICH.
100 years since copper strike, U.P. town copes with past

About the reporter: Robert Guttersohn primarily covers Royal Oak and Clawson crime, schools and government and writes for the Royal Oak Review. He enjoys writing enterprise and human-interest stories.

About the story: Robert first heard of the 100-year-old tragedy in Calumet while working on another story for C & G Newspapers earlier in the year. With the centennial of the copper strike only months away, he immediately felt compelled to make a trip to Keweenaw Peninsula for interviews. What Robert didn't expect to find was a region still coping with its past.
