Strachan

STAFF FAVORITE — FEBRUARY 2013:

SOUTHFIELD
Local boy honored for bravery during house fire

About the reporter: Jessica Strachan has been the reporter for the Southfield Sun since 2012. She earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and behavioral sciences from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and her master’s degree in social science from the University of Michigan-Flint.

About the story: This kiddo is way cooler than he gives himself credit for. Because of his quick thinking and collectedness when most kids — make that adults — would be in a state of panic, Andrew was able to save his family and eventually return to his childhood home. He's the epitome of what a Scout represents and though it's unfortunate that the Palmers had to face such a difficult situation, Andrew was able to make a lot of people proud and now has a moment of recognition that will shape him forever. Way to go, Andrew.
