
Birmingham Brother Rice successfully defends swimming county title

Birmingham Brother Rice won its second straight Oakland County swimming title Feb. 1-2 at Lake Orion High.
The Warriors finished with 347 points. Birmingham Seaholm was second with 316 and Novi Detroit Catholic Central tallied 229 for third.
Novi High (155), Lake Orion (137), Bloomfield Hills Lahser (126), Clarkston High (115.5), Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood (108), Troy High (102), White Lake Lakeland (94), North Farmington (92), West Bloomfield High (82), Walled Lake Central (68), Oxford High (59), South Lyon High (58), Rochester High (50), Beverly Hills Detroit Country Day (49.5), Birmingham Groves (23), Rochester Hills Stoney Creek (18), Rochester Adams (17), Troy Athens (15), Walled Lake Northern (14), Bloomfield Hills Andover (13), Walled Lake Western (11), Milford High (9), Auburn Hills Avondale (9), Berkley High (6) and Waterford United (2) made up the rest of the field.
Catholic Central won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 38 seconds. Brother Rice's Joe Krause won the 200 freestyle (1:42.38) and 100 free (46.81); Catholic Central's Jack Walsh took the 200 individual medley (1:53.01) and the 100 backstroke (52.11); Walsh's teammate ,Tim Szuba, was tops in the 50 free (21.59); Lakeland's Shinya Kondo won the 1-meter diving (20 points); Troy's Troy Chen took the 100 butterfly (52.46); Lakeland's Will Walker was the fastest in the 500 free (4:42.03); Rice won the 200 free relay (1:26.62); Lahser's John Schihl took the 100 breaststroke (57.72); and Rice won the 400 free relay (3:12.73).
